Just read this on the BMW finance end of lease conditions : There should be no rust or corrosion on any part of the bobywork or trim of the vehicle.
They're having a f***king laugh, I've seen bikes stood in dealers a few weeks old with corroded caliper bolts, rotor bolts & rusty discs so come 36 months old most BMW bikes will be corroded to hell

Anyone been charged stupid money after they return their bike's ?

bodywork and trim? sounds like its a cut and paste from a car lease, i would be arguing that brakes and engine front covers are neither!!!

Socket bolts can be fine but still get rust marks inside the socket head. Clean it with a toothbrush and ACF50 everything.

How can you get rust on 1200GS , is all made from plastic:nenau
You must to be one off the most unfortunate GS owner :D I have GS for over 7 years and never had rust on any off my bikes :thumb
Try to bring the bike back in Showroom condition and have a big smile on your face , some parts they should be put it down as natural wear and tear :thumb

Well motorbike bodywork & trim is plastic so nothing to worry about there.

Suspect this is copied from car lease, as mentioned earlier, but even on a car, I'd like to see that corrosion statement stand up in court.

Mine is still like new with no corrosion anywhere, never used in the wet or winter & kept in a heated garage :D but I have seen some scabby well used examples at a few years old.
Just interested to see if folks have indeed been charged for natural wear & tear in the past ?

Ride it man .... Ride it :) Don't pay all that money out and leave it in the garage :D

My days of riding every day to work in the pissing rain & snow / sleet are long gone :D
Not my idea of fun & because the salesman got the milage limit wrong on the lease form :tears I can only do 4000 miles in a year, did nearly that in one trip :blast

You only pay excess mileage charges if you are handing the bike back and walking away though don't you? if you where for example, to go and P/ex it then it would just be treated like any other finance agreement and a settlement figure obtained / paid out.

I'm assuming your on a PCP though as I didn't know there was actually a "lease" program for Bikes.

I use mine for work a lot, but I don't commute, Friday will be purgatory driving back from Cardiff to Warrington, so it's going to be a lot faster and easier on the GS, especially with a bit of heated gear, and it's still fun :)

That's correct sir:thumb
OT:
In the current climate and financial difficulties I can agree with lots off people that try to take things easy specially during the winter :) I also don't want to ride during the winter , it is not my ideal type off fun :) I have a substitute 125 that takes me where my 1200 dose , is just as fun :) but is so funny as my 125 is 14 years old , never garaged or wash and still no rust but good as new .

In a car lease they call it a "dilapidation charge" - I don't think I would be very happy having a 3 year old bike termed as dilapidated!
