During a number of recent enquiries about whether their Adventures had a"Standard" or "Low Ratio / Enduro" first gear, most owners just don't seem to know. The standard answer is "No idea - how can I tell?"

Is there some way of checking this, provided I have the Engine Number or VIN? I was told once that there is a website which would give the information requested. Any ideas whether such a site exists and if so, what the website address is? ;)

I'm pretty sure the dealers can type in a VIN number and tell you the spec. I have a normal 1st gear as thats the way I ordered it. I asked him to order the same as the demo bike and he tapped into the spec on the computer.

Just checked the new Vehicle Order sheet for mine, the "Enduro gearbox with low first gear" is option 631.

Another way of checking is when you collect it and make the first down change into 1st gear with anything more than 5mph showing, if you nearly drop the bugger because it stops dead, you've got the low gear!!!!!!:o
