I had been thinking about getting one of Mark Hooton's Crud Catchers for my 2010 GSA for some time. I already had a couple of Mark's quality products on my bike, but despite reading rave reviews about the Crud Catcher I hadn't bitten the bullet and ordered one yet.

The main reason being that I had a genuine BMW Enduro Bash Plate fitted on my bike by the dealer when I bought it, and it was considerably different from both the OE and 30th Anniversary sump guards, and wasn’t sure how the two available Crud Catchers variants would work with mine.

I contacted Mark, and although he wasn’t aware of my type of sump guard, he said he’d do a bit of research and get back to me…

….the following day I received a message saying that he’d looked into it and knew the one I meant….

….the next day I received a parcel in the post with a specially made bespoke Enduro Sump Guard Crud Catcher, along with a note saying that if it wasn’t perfect to contact him with the details and he’d make a new one to meet my requirements! What service!…and I hadn’t even paid yet!!!

It was clear to see that even by just offering the Crud Catcher up to the bike that it seemed pretty much spot on! So whatever research Mark had done, or wealth of experience he had called upon, it had paid off.

The next challenge was fitting it……I have to admit now that I am a mechanical numpty!…we’re talking an idiot with a spanner here! :augie…..but after a couple of reads of the clearly written, and easy to follow instructions, I set about the task with enthusiasm and a torque wrench!

Having removed the four existing bolts, I pushed the four new longer bolts through the plate, slid on the spacer sleeves in the appropriate positions. Then using a T30 torx socket, I wound the bolts in just by turning the socket with my fingers until the Crud Catcher was in place.
I’ve got to say that there was no need to adjust the position of it whatsoever. The holes were obviously drilled in exactly the right place, so that once all the bolts were finger tight it settled into the correct position…and the size of it, or dimensions of it in relationship to the sump guard, were perfect…absolutely spot on!

Next was putting a torque wrench to the socket and doing the four bolts up to 8Nm and it was done! I didn’t actually time it, but it was all finished in minutes! It couldn’t have been simpler, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the results.

This is a top quality product, from the manufacture and design of the plate, to the top quality bolts and spacers supplied. And the customer service is unrivalled…these aren’t Crud Catchers, these are Mark’s individually made creations, and he cares about every one, and each of his customers that buys one.

I really can’t praise the product, or Mark, highly enough. Both are top quality, and I certainly would recommend the Crud Catcher, and any of the Cymarc products (…I absolutely love my spot light protectors!) to anyone, my only regret is that I didn’t get one years ago.

So a big thank you to Mark for a great product, and for great service, I will be back for more from your website soon….

(Once I get the bike out on the road I’ll get some better photos done…)

What a great shame that British industry on the whole doesn't operate like this.

Top marks to Mark for such an outstanding customer service/relations. :clap:clap:clap

To be honest , I have actually enjoyed reading that!
Well done , it looks very nice:thumb

Thanks, I'm more than pleased with it...I'd never actually seen a Crud Catcher on any bike, but they look really impressive in the flesh.

Wow

Wow, Dianese Brave, kind words but I simply don't deserve such praise.

It's thankfully received but I am doing nothing more than what I am sure some other goodly fellow bikers would do.

I'm really chuffed you like the part - it looks well on your bike. Don't forget, an occasional wipe with WD40 keeps it looking good.

Best regards and ride safe eh?

Mark

By the way good report - I am sure other guys will appreciate it and after all it's what the forum is all about

If it looks horrible and cheap it might not be one of mine - if that is the case send whatever you have to me and I'll send you one of mine free of charge (apart from the bottle of wine) :D

I recently had a client turn up and purchase a front crud, he seemed delighted but on inspection he had an awful rear crud - it looked like it was made from tin foil and looked awful- so I gave him one of mine. It's what I do and if people have the right attitude I remain happy to do it :thumb

It really is easy to fit....I took it slow and careful and it was still finished in no time! I think the manufacturing is so good it just fits where it should be....makes it easy even for numpties like me! :thumb2

Hi Mark,

The praise is well deserved :thumb2...and I'm very pleased with my Crud Catcher, and yes it's been well polished with WD40 already!...seems a shame to have road chippings thrown at it!! :D

I'm happy to do a review to endorse a great product, and I hope it helps in future sales. :thumb2

I've used Mark a few times, and have his products on both bikes, it's always a pleasure to deal with him.:thumb

BTW, what did you clean your headers with, they look brand new?

I think he might have used that hein Gereke stuff - I used it and put a post on the forum - the results were stunning

They look like chrome pipes though, and I know from first hand experience that the HG stuff doesn't work on chrome!:blast:D

Wow nice bit of kit - what's the approx price including shipping to blighty?

I think somewhere around £250:eek: A nice Cymarc powder coated one would look lovely on my Triple Black.:drool Put that wine down and get planning.:D

£250 including shipping? That's not too bad - I got the impression that the shipping was killing it? What's the unit cost before shipping then?

It does seem very nice to be fair - I've already designed a plate which locks onto the rear pillion so it wouldn't be hard to simply build it into a box I guess!
