Insured my enduro bike (£4000) with ebike. Over 40 year old in Hertfordshire, brick built garage. £138 TPFT. 0 NCB. Noticed statement online said if the bike is stolen with the ignition key in the ignition you are not covered. Queried this as the bike has no ignition key. Was told they could not cover the bike due to no ignition key. Even though this bike is listed on their web site. So I cancelled the policy.

Anyone else come across this. Who do you insure your key less enduro bike with?

I have all my bikes on two Ebike policies......
Why did you open that can of worms......?:nenau Very odd......

Timpo.

I always wondered about just such a thing with my G450X which was insured as parked on a road without any security devices.

I used Bennetts and they were fine about it.

Timpo, I queried this with Ebike as this is the first enduro bike I have had. :hide Bike was on their list of bikes to insure and I assumed (should have known assume = make an ass out of u and me) that they would come back and say this is no problem. I was a bit shocked when they said "Our Underwriters have confirmed we are unable to insure your bike with no ignition key, therefore please follow below instructions to cancel your policy online"

I rang around to find a new insurer and was told that it's up to the underwriters who sometimes agree to insure and sometimes not. Ebike say they will give me a full refund (less days insured)but it would appear that they didn't know the bike had no key.

I'm now with MCE who told me over the phone that this is not a problem although their policy doc says the same about being stolen with the key in the ignition. Think its best to keep quite in future.

I can't see how ebike could refuse to cover a bike that they have agreed to insure that has no modifications i.e. manufactured with no ignition key.

As others have said it wouldn't be stolen with the key in the ignition as it has no igniton key.

Sorry if I've dekcuf it up for anyone else :toungincheek, but though I'd better let you lot know.

They're the two lines dude...... Manufactured with no key ignition, so can't be stolen with key in ignition.

Bit on this mornings TV news about an insurance industry rules shake-up long overdue regarding the onus being on the insurers to prove compliance (or lack of) with policy terms rather than exclude people or refuse to pay up after said event using small-print etc. Apparently most insurance policies are based on ancient marine insurance laws which are not relevant enough in todays world, so things need to change (for the better IMHO).

Maybe they are just being more picky due to a forthcoming change in the rules which they will have to conform to ??:nenau

You shouldn't have cancelled the policy. They made you an offer capable of acceptance (by offering to insure your bike), which has quite some legal standing. Oh well. And if it doesnt have a key, how can it be stolen with one?

They told him to cancel it as he wouldn't be covered so effectively they cancelled it .

Mums the word.

But they did not have the right to request that he cancelled it. Comes back to my previous point, ebike made Shadude an offer capable of acceptance blah blah blah.

It's ebike's problem that they had the bike listed and did not realise that it didn't have an igntion key.

I'm guessing now but because ebike do everything online then they probably requested he cancel it online. I would also guess there is bound to be something in the small print somewhere that gives them every right to cancel the policy whenever and however they see fit...................
