Enduro gearbox

I am looking to get a new GS to replace my stolen one. My old one had the enduro gearbox as I fancied going off road a bit, just green lanes really. Anyway as it turned out the bike got nicked before I ever had the chance to take it off road. The dealer reckons they can get me a new bike in a couple of weeks from stock but without the enduro box or one from the factory with the box in December.

Do you reckon its worth the wait or would the standard gearbox be enough for my use?

Stick with the enduro box. I have problem pulling away uphill with bike fully loaded and pillion. Shorter first gear will help or better ballance at low speed.

I wish I'd have specced my GSA with an enduro box even just for road use

My 2004 bike had a standard 1st gear and was awful, needing a handfull of throttle pulling away when laden and awkward to ride in heavy traffic (which you get plenty of in UK).

The new (2008) GSA is a whole lot easier to ride because of the lower 1st gear, and feels no slower off the line for it in real-world riding.

i have the standard box, often ride 2 up, loaded, in Alpine terrain, and flit through traffic.

dunno what the problem is?

A good friend who joined us in the Dolomites a month ago rode a standard geared, fully loaded (as in FULLY LOADED as he and she seem to take their entire house with them everywhere), two up all the time, 1200GSA of the 2010 variety..... around all the hairpins, everyday......without a problem, at all. No stinking clutch, nothing.

Standard gearbox is good, but enduro one (short) is better.

Got the enduro box in my GSA, I had to pay a bit more (not in dealers' stock so less negotiable) and wait a bit longer but I think it's great, especially in traffic or when riding two up. There's no real gap between 1st and 2nd gear either, go for it!

This puzzles me. Everyone says the shorter first gear is better, even for everyday use, but if that's true, wouldn't it be the standard spec ?

I have no probs whatsoever with my '07 R12GS's normal box, and the '10 bikes have shorter overall gearing ...
