I've just put a deposit down on a 1250GSA but haven't picked it up yet so can't check this, but does putting the bike into Enduro mode make the suspension softer than road mode, and if so can you ride Enduro Mode on the road and not confuse the ECU? The reason I ask is that, like most of the UK, some of the roads around me are pretty much like riding off road and I'd like to have the suspension as soft as possible to soak up the bumps :hide

Not sure on 1250 but on my old r1200gsa lc te in enduro mode suspension was taller and softer and it was its best ride but cruise control was disabled

Thanks. I'm assuming there's no issue on the 1250GSA as Enduro Pro gives a warning saying off road only with off road tyres but there's no such warning with Enduro mode. I do believe throttle response is reduced in Enduro mode though.

I seem to recall enduro mode is not recommended for the road, due to the brake system bias being more to the rear. This could have a detrimental effect on braking and rear brake pad wear. It also alters the traction control system for optimised off road use.
If you don't already have a copy, you will find the electronic handbook here (0M11 euro is the latest) https://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/en/service/manuals/owners-handbook.html
The suspension is soft enough in road mode.

Thanks, I have downloaded the manual but it doesn’t specifically answer the question regarding enduro.

On the test ride I didn’t find the suspension as soft as I recall my 1200GSA being, but then it was over 10 years ago since I had that.

Try looking at either GSD321 or just the way it is on u tube, both chap's give a good explanation on your subject,
Good look,
Ian.

I’ve watched several from just the way it is but it didn’t specifically answer it, but I’ll take a look at GSD321, thanks (y)

The attached pdf contains the table extracted from justthewayitis for "non pro" modes, but does not include ESA settings.
Anyway the suspension can be adjusted in two basical ways: increasing/decreasing spring preload and increasing/decreasing hydraulic damping.
ESA, as you can see in the linked page, https://www.bikesinfotech.com/electronic_chassis_and_suspension_adjustment_d_esa_-21.html has two categories, bike height that should work on spring preload and the other that should work on damping.
Never tried how it goes, but once you enable the enduro mode in ECU you will have the enduro option in ESA either enabled or available, and you can make tests using, for example, enduro damping (low hydraulic damping) and leaving height in AUTO, or high, depending how bad are the streets you have . Then you will see if the variations in suspensions are what you need, but just consider also the variations in ECU mode that are included with this option.

Thanks, yeah that's what I figured out. It was more a case of whether running Enduro on road would confuse the ECU or something, and whether ABS would be affected. Looking at GDR's sheet it just says ABS is reduced compared to road mode, but it also says the same for dynamic mode so if the ABS in Enduro is the same as Dynamic that'd be fine.

It has no issues at all.
As Si Pavey says - Enduro/Enduro Pro will work on the road. Road won’t work on road.”
We very rarely have either of our two bikes in road mode.

You can try to test ride a some routes twice in ROAD and ENDURO to feel if and how it makes a difference for you, that's the better way
Yeah I'll definitely test it out when the bike arrives (y)

Interesting, I'm sure I've seen it said that Enduro Pro shouldn't be used on road. I wonder if that's just becasue of the DTC and ABS settings in Enduro Pro :nenau

Right. Think that use of Enduro pro has no sense on tarmac, dtc & abs are optimized for knbbly tires offroad and MSR is disabled (set on medium in dynamic pro), all other settings are the same of Dynamic pro that is planned for road use.

We run Annakee Wilds or Karoo 4’s.
Road mode can give some strange reactions on certain surfaces as obviously there is reduced grip due to the type of tyres they are.
Enduro Pro takes that into account rather than constantly cutting in and interfering with the drive.
