got there, lovely part of the world
got my KTM 300 to the start line ready to do the sighting lap, set off going steady about 1/2 mile into the lap the back wheel locked, WTF, looked down at the back wheel and the chain guide had come loose and got tangled in the chain (bad preperation?) i had only just picked and it had been PDI'd but there was two bolts missing from the chain guide!!!! anyway back to the race, i pushed the bike bck to the pits i was gutted to say the least but by the time i got back i decided to try and fix it and get back into the race. i undid the chain and took off the bent alimimium and rubber chain guide with the help of my mates dad we got to work on the guide with (my favorite tool)a lump hammer and using the trailer as an anvil we set about staighening the chain guard. during this time the rest of the guys racing had finished the sighting lap but the race hadnt started, next minute the helicopter had landed because some guy had decided to launch himself had had to be medi-vacked out delaying the start of the race for an hour (bless him). during this time we managed to scrounge some bolts and cobble it together and made the start with 5 mins to spare.
the race started off slowly for me because i had missed the sighting lap (and i am a slow rider anyway) it was a good track with loads of fast, flat out stuff and some tight technical off camber woods with load of routes and low branches, i really enjoyed the ight technical off camber type of stuff but i am not so good on the flat out i tend to ride it a bit like a road bike especially on the brakes i plodded on through the race doing 10 laps in 3 hours had one small get off, when a tree refused to jump out of the way. by the end of the race i was f****ng knackered the bike performed faultlessly (apart from the initial upset) and a great day was had by all well nearly all
fu***d up at the finish, race ended at 3.pm i checked about 6-7 min's before but was too knackerd to do another, should have waited just before the check until 3pm then went through.I'll bet DAVID KNIGHT is breathing a sigh of relief ....loz
