Help!
Are there any Enfield tecchy bods out there?

My EFI has decided to make a horrendous resonating noise at abotu half throttle - comes on parked up or driving in any gear (ie yes it is at the same engine speed every time :)).

It just sounds wrong. Dealer cant collect for a little bit so thought I woudl throw it out there people... it is a new noise, oil level ok, first service performed at 600miles, run in properly, it is coming from the head of the engine.

:tears

maybe it's just a resonance from something under the tank, a cable 'frinstance?

i really hope so - just cant seem to find a damn thing loose, close to something or whatever.
Got to hear the noise to believe it - i initially thought it was perhaps the exhaust connection to the head that had loosened off.
Hope its not a rod... :(

My EFI woodsman can be really noisy and vibrates a bit,its probably something come loose,my back light bracket snapped due to vibration though its getting better with miles.Take the tank of and have a look, tighten all the engine mounts and easily accessable nuts and bolts .Did you run it in as per instructions? Ive seized a few in India :augie The EFI is meant to be more reliable but you do at least have a warranty so don't panic:thumb2 Oh and they are noisier when the tank is nearly empty due to resonance

yeah ran in properly and sympathetically!

I had a really good rummage around the bike last night, feels liek it is coming from inside the tank on the RHS around (i presume this is what it is) the fuel guage float!

yep the Fuel pump and float are on the right ,have you checked the head steady ? they can break .The tank is a new design for the EFI so could be a teething problem within:thumb2

sorry - the head steady? no comprende sir. :D

The tank brackets seem secure.
All i can see coming from underneath the RHS rear of the tank is a cable, is that not the pump externally fixed on the LHS rear of the tank?

Where is a Haynes manual when you need one?!

The head steady is the metal rod from the rear of the head to the frame ,they can snap/come loose . I have a manual but its not much use :blast

oh sorry yes the head steady is rock steady sir!
All ok.

I think perhaps the float mechanism may be vibbing against the tank side? It makes the noise when full and empty.

If i push the tank firmly to the left it goes away, if i let go it comes back!
Bonkers. :(

Thats the Joy of Enfield Ownership:D:thumb2

FOUND THE PROBLEM! :JB:JB:JB:JB:JB

tank nut at rear a little slack - thank gawd for that.
Happy little enfield again - he's had his nuts tightened finally.

I have a 500 bullet 1991. I cant tell you the amount of noises it makes that come and go.........every ride is a surprise.

Love it to bits tho hopefully will never sell it !

Read the thread with interest. I bought a new Electra efi 5 months ago and can honestly say that I have not been disappointed. A few mods made it better and still a few to do but up to now I have 1100 trouble free miles on it.
First things to go we're the footrests. To far forward. A set of rear sets from Hitchcocks cured that. ;) Couldn't put the rear sets on without changing the exhaust system:confused: A full clubman system, again from Hitckocks sorted that out. Another problem now. :eek Being fuel injected I couldn't re-set the mixture. Now I needed a Power Commander to allow re-mapping :eek Back to Hitchcocks who happen to do a Dynojet jet Power Commander specifically for the EFI.;) This involves removing the lambder sensor and blanking the exhaust with supplied stainless plug.
Although maps are supplied by Hitchcocks, I had it custom mapped locally (Runcorn) and what a transformation. ;) nice steady tick over, not up and down as it was with lambder sensor fitted. 6 BHP up on stock. Now 34 at engine and 24 at rear wheel.
I can cruise at an indicated 75 mph with no uncomfortable vibration other than you know it's alive. A soft massage is how it could be described. The best bit is the mileage. I have just done 170 miles on two gallons which is the tank capacity before reserve. (6 pints) :D That involved some town riding and some 70 mph motorway riding to and from Ashton-Under-Lyne to Winwick Warrington via M56-Lymn-Warburton Bridge-Padgate. A mixed bag of traffic conditions:blagblah
Just a few more mods to do. A small fly screen, from, you guessed, Hitckcocks. An 18 tooth gearbox sprocket to replace the 17 tooth standard one, and finally, an electronic Scott Oiler for great chain and sprocket life.;)
Meanwhile the GS sits in the garage unused. There must be something about this EFI :rob
I hope this gives an insight into what must be Enfield's finest creation.
Must go. Need to start it up and listen to that Goldie Twitter:cool:
