Collecting the new bike 1200 GS TE (White) tomorrow and had ordered engine bars. Just had a call saying there is a worldwide shortage and there is NO ETA on when I can get them....

Apparently BMW UK Parts has issued a statement to this affect. I can't find it.

Anybody else had ro having issues with this. Want to know if dealer is pulling wool over my excited little eyes :blagblah

Strap a couple of sofa cushions, one on each pot, you'll be right;)

Seriously, you'll be fine, just be careful:D

Same Problem

Its the same problem with nearly every accessory ! SW Motech do them -check on fleabay.

Just like loads of manufacturers they do not have a robust process for ensuring supply before launching the car/bike/truck.

Mick:blagblah

I bought the SW Motech engine bars from www.bs-motoparts.com in Germany. The price was reasonable €208 inc postage (£175 ish). Excellent service, the bars arrived in three days.
Unfortunately they did arrive with a small scratch :blast so I got €20 refund to pay for a bit of paint:). There's a powder coat repair kit available from SW, so all's good.
Aside from the slight damage, the quality seems good.

Did you buy the silver or black ones? Any chance of a photo. I bought the BMW ones as I thought they looked the best. As in the looked part of the bike. Not an added after thought...only just seen these but picture is from behind on the web. :bounce1

engine bars

Hi , had bike 2 weks , bars been orderd 7 weeks still no sign , from AJ shiply
i cannot understand why the demand has not been met , but same story with panniers and top boxes , someone in BMW must have forot that the sell them with new bikes as non of the previous model bits will fit ||||

I was lucky that my bars were fitted to the bike when I collected it. I'm sure you'll be fine, but its psychological that you'll worry more until they are fitted.:comfort:D

If I buy one, I wouldn't bother with crash bars & i've never fitted them before (unless the bike came with them as factory spec, in the case of the Adv)

They can cause more damage in a spill

No need to panic

I've just finished fitting the bars.It was straight forward. As you can see they're silver.

They look good, but its a shame they aren't the same colour, or closer in colour to the frame:blast

I agree 'silver' is a generous description for light grey! All things considered - cost (£100 less then BMW) and availability (3 days) they are a decent bit of kit. I'd rather have the cylinder heads protected than risk a scuff waiting for the OE version.

Don't tell anyone - but the bike was a cancelled order. I picked it up a week after I decided to buy one - and they chucked the wheels in FOC. :thumb

My 12 year old Triumph hasn't got them and has no blemishes.

Top tip: Don't have a crash.

Collected

Well when I got to the dealer Saturday morning in the rain I was a little worried. But they managed to secure the 'last set in the uk' of bars and they were fitted whilst I did the paper work....so all good in the end.

Promptly hoped on bike and road to Shell Island in Wales. Nice 250 mile round trip...

Have to say the Bike is just awesome....

p.s. thanks for the advice and pictures about the other bars. Have to say they look pretty good to me. not like an after thought...

Ahh well then, by the time i can afford, and have managed too persued my manager that i need one, when i get a WC, there should be ample stock of engine bars..............:D :blast :flag

Not on 1200's mate:thumby:. I think back in the olden days, they caused damage to the steam valves and the main boilers on 11**'s in the event of a derailment;)
