engine bars or plastic covers?

I have just px'ed my 600 Fazer for a 1200GS.
I know its the wrong time of year but it had to be done.

Considering the size difference between the FZS and GS and that pillions tend to wiggle when I stop at lights (is it my carp riding?), there is a big chance that i could drop the bike. this may not be a problem for you seasoned off roaders, but I'd like to keep my GS shiny for the first year at least.
I have negotiated some BM engin' bars but did not see the point in the plastic covers.

I don't intend to furiously 'off road' just yet, the questions I have are:
which are best, the bars or covers for mainly road use.
And can you fit both,
is there any better stuff out there.

I didnt want any toys except for the alarm, did not want the ABS or heated grips so consequently the bike gets delivered in Nov (are these bits standard or fitted anyway, it just takes time to make one without the toys). its one of the longest waits i have had.

:bounce1

I have ordered mine (yello and black) from CW in Dorchester, hope they are as goos as everyone says. I was offered more PX for the FZS from Motorrad in Bristol

Heated grips are a must get more use out of the bike summer/winter.

As to the other bits have look though Touratech catolgue and wunderlich lots of bolt on bits.

Do a search of the forum you'll find loads on the crashbars etc.,

Hi mark26, I too went from a fazer 600 to a 1200GS earlier this year.

I ordered what was available at the time which happened to be Yellow/Grey/Black with heated grips and ABS. Have added the alarm and a BMW top box. The grips are nice to have, provide the bike with an upgraded alternator and make those chilly mornings/evenings more bearable.

Hope you enjoy your new bike.

For extras, Nippy Normans are good :thumb

If its not too late get heated grips instead of engine bars then get some H&B bars for £135 which are better than the bem ones - no need for head protectors. Heated grips are fab and most people wanting to buy a 2nd hand bem are wanting heated grips so they'll help resale. I specified no ABS and had to wait 3 months for the bike

Hi Mark26

I've just done the same px my fazer for a 2 yr old 1150gs, also got a crap PX but the best deal i got was from SPC, also on the look out for some engine bars and decided to go for the H&B ones, as they seem more substantial - all i got to do now is get the missus to agree and make her think it was her idea in the first place

:D

cheers

thanks for the replies guys.

wish i found this forum before i ordered. nope I'm too late they are building the bike so I am stuck without heated grips. :(

when I spoke to the dealer, he reckoned that the 12GS did not require an uprated alternator for the grips, this may have been the case on the 1150 but not so on the 12GS . discuss

I think he may be right. heated grips for £195 sounds about right, if you get an uprated alternator + grips for that price i'd be surprised.

Definently avoid the BM bars which do not protect the covers if the bike goes over, get the H&B bars which are much more substantial.
