engine bars siezed.

Tried to take of my rusty engine bars for respray, but bolt at front bottom of engine siezed in! Is there a knack for removing this bolt (8mm allen keyfitting) ? Sprayed in penetrating oil but still no go, head starting to enlarge!! Would an airgun do the trick? Any advice muchly appreciated. Oh yeah its on an 1150gs, but dont know the make of bars, sorry

If they are going for a respray try a wire brush around the exposed thread, then a drop of Diesel fuel as lubricant. Leave a day then if that don't work a bit of localised heat on the nut. BTW a powdercoat will be better than a respray.

have recently had some success removing several bleed nipples from antediluvian period calipers using a loctite aerosol that freezes (just a bit) the offending bolt as it sprays penatrating oil in.

might be worth a try if other methods fail.

Freezing it sounds like a great idea! I`m going to get some of that for tool kit. It`s called 'Loctite Freeze & Release' and can be found here, Search

Try tightening it up a fraction, sounds illogical I know but you just need to get the thing moving in any direction, once you have cracked the lock on it then you should be able to start to unscrew it. This has worked for me on a few occasions.

Put an allen socket in the bolt and hit it hard with a copper mallet

Yes put wrench in socket and constant light tapping while applying turning force.

Many thanks for all your advice, the nut comes off no problem, its just the allen bolt which appears to be stuck in the hole! Big hammer it is then!!!!!
