Has anyone had problems with the ADV engine bars cracking around the mounting points? just getting mine welded up for the second time, could it be vibration or are they just shit?:nenau

yup - just noticed at the weekend that mine have 'gone' and will need welding.

Torn between getting them fixed or removing them / replacing with Steptoes guards.......

Can't say my bike has been badly treated, although it has (once) been dropped from when stationary - SWMBO caught her foot on the pannier when dismounting from pillion seat and pulled bike over - I couldn't hold it up once past the balance point (quite embarrasing). So I can't say I've been impressed with the quality.

Just as a mater of interest - can they just be removed, or do the bolts hold other important bits in place?

Bars

Dump the bars and go with Steppers, if you have a fast get off the bars will dig in the raod and thre bike will flip over doing mega damage, I know I've done it and Mr S. warned me what could happen and it does!!!.

you could say that:D:augie

Care to be a bit more expansive on that short but sweet answer.

I'm now imagining Engine falling out, suspension self destructing, and me skating down the road on me arse:eek:

Oh and keep it simple - whilst I can tell one end of a screw driver from the other, that just means I can probably open a tin of paint with it - I am a mechanical numpty

Cheers

just put the bolts back in...

What DaveGS said. :thumb2

I had the rubber mounts under the engine go and never bothered to replace the bars. My local dealer in Geneva has taken a keen interest in the Steptoe guards as they have had about four incidents where bars have caused more damage to the bike that they would have protected (including one punctured fuel tank).

Steptoe guards are a fine addition.

My Adventure bars ...

... failed on both rear upper mounts, welds went on both sides without any encouragement from me dropping the thing

Replaced with Steppers headguards :thumb

Ta.

I haven't looked closely (yet) and wondered whether they would be different bolts (sizes etc).

If it's that simple, I'll be able to manage.

Plastic engine guard/cover is also next to useless. It stops scratches, but gives no protection. So St Eptoe has got the right product.

Cheers
