bought the Motech; good quality, good price, easy to install and does the job...BUT Gauloise is right it is attached to the frame AND the blash plate; so should probably be removed for simple manutention; therefore I am not 100% happy...
I've finally ordered a set of crash bars - H&B from Nippy Norman after a lenghty debate and advice from the board - The H&B's have been 'proven' in a few drops now and have come out well....
I've got a set of the SW Motech bars from Caveman - see http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49462 - I reckon that they are the best around in terms of balance of function / looks / price for the R1200GS. Haven't got a photo of them yet, but contact Caveman as he took some when they were first fitted...
This seems to be asked a lot (by me a week or so ago for example) so it could be useful to trawl through to find the thread.
What basically came back was that the H&B ones were the most popular (maybe been around longest) and had proven their worth in a number of cases (unlike the B*W ones!).
I ordered some a week or so ago (they are in demand which kind of proves a point) and hope to get them this week. In silver though, Not sure on the black as I'd rather they blend in cos none of them are pretty.
You should also look up the thread for fitting if you do decide on the H&B set as they can be a bit awkward I understand.
Well that preempts my next question, horns Loudest. Shouting at the stupid hoppers doesn't seem to work too well. So what are the loudest horns? Preferably not air horns, the coppers don't seem to like them for some reason. I notice Nippy Normans has some, so they might suffice, if they're loud enough.
Just for my own information, what is wrong with the bars attaching to the bash plate??? Surely its strong enough to take it, hence the name 'bash plate'??
Oh yeah i just remembered, i bought a set of motech bars last week and they are class!! Easy to fit, and judging by the others i have seen actually offer some protection and they look the part too.
The Motech bars don't "attach" to the bash plate, they use the same mounting points. There's a bar that runs under the bash plate to provide rigidity. I'd mine in before I got the bike, and they've made a couple of "moments" into molehills.
