during the last 10000KM the oil consumption on my 2003 1150GS ´adventure´ has increased, also when removing the air filter i have noticed that the inside of the airbox has a fair collection of oil covering it. a week ago i drained the airbox and noticed more oil than normal.

what conditions would cause this ?

can it be other things instead of worn rings or valves forcing the air from compression into the crankcase.

recently the ambient air temperature has been getting hotter and before that i have done around 3000KM at around an altitude of 3000-4000 meter , could this have anything to do with decreased atmospheric pressure.

perhaps i am looking for other reasons rather than a worn engine, the bike has covered 90000KM.

i've got a 95000 MILE 1150, and i get no oil residue at all in the airbox -

Are you over filling it ?

i must admit the last time i filled it, it was a bit too much. prior to that though when i drained the airbox the oil present was excessive, what would be normal when draining the airbox ?

the BM manual says to fill with 3.8 litres, (including a filter change) i normally find this is too much i take it that up to the middle of the sight glass is correct, how many litres does that equate to ?

There has never been any oil in my airbox on my GS, I don't think as a norm there should be.

My Z250 used to blow oil into the air box because it had knackered piston rings.
