My replacement engine is only 4,500 miles old and has started to make a loud Ish tapping noise from the left cylinder (when sitting on the bike). Sounds like tappets or something similar. Plenty of oil in it as the casings were replaced 2 weeks ago. Checked the level a few times since.

Any ideas? Dealer will investigate when it goes in for a service in August.

And this sounds exactly why I wouldn't let a dealer rebuild my engine internals into a set of new casings , a specialist or experienced engine builder yes , an average service technician no bloody way.

Hopefully it will be something simple like tappets but get it back to the dealer asap

Now on a loaner while they investigate

Mine rattles from the right side, in fact it's a load of rattle old bones, I'm sure a valve check/adjustment will sort it tho..

Just returned from 10 days through Pyrenees and France on my 2017 WC after riding a 2005 1200 for 12 years. New bike is so much better but, the noise. That engine ain't quiet. I thought water cooled engines were supposed to be so much more refined. It pulls well etc etc and is great but makes a lot more noise than the old one. And not necessarily in a good way!

I agree, mines a noisy git, my 2014 was much less noisy..
I just bought A R9T urban & it's quiet as a mouse compared to my new Rallye..

The GSA loan bike I am on is sooo much quieter than mine was last week. Hoping I get mine back fixed soon though as really not enjoying the GSA. Feels sluggish and the stock tyres are pretty poor compared to my Roadtecs. Dash is very nice though.

Apparently it was a failed bearing in the head. Whole head needed to be replaced at a cost of £1,000 for the warranty. Not good on an engine that had done less than 5,000 miles.

Bike is now tickety boo.

Presumably bike is in fact not now tickety... :D (I'll get my coat).

As it happens, mines in on Monday for exactly the same problem - sudden development of loud rattly noise from left side. 2016 GSA with 10k on the clock.

Apparently mine's a problem with the inlet camshaft on the left side, which is being replaced today.

Exactly same as mine but only 3k miles. Booked into dealer late May and was done in a week. Now so much quieter.

Don't spose you've ridden much in France, have you? I can't see how this is linked, but my local dealer said they'd had three cases of this, and in all three cases the bikes had been run on French fuel immediately before the problem manifested itself.

No, sorry no France on bike yet. Don't use supermarket stuff either!
