I have a 2009 r1200gs adventure which I have owned from brand new. I have just opted for the extended warranty (full fat version with no excess)
Right from the start of ownership I read about corrosion problems, so, being inclined to look after my toys I made sure it was cleaned regularly and I got myself a supply of ACF50. All is well.
Now I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't use my bike during the winter, in fact I don't really use it much in the summer !!! The only reason I have a bike is for lads holidays, France, Italy, Spain, Scotland, that kind of malarky.
Anyway, just returned from le mans and as usual cleaned the bike. Every things seems fine, in fact bike looks brand new, except, just under the right hand cylinder on the silver painted engine casing the paint is bubbling. The paint isn't cracked or flaking, just bubbling. Now I'm no materials expert but for corrosion wouldn't moisture need to come into contact with the aluminium ? Or is this more the fact that the aluminium wasn't prepared correctly before it was painted ?
I thought this bike was going to be a keeper, I have joked that this will be the first bike I have ever M.O.T'd, but sadly I am now not so sure !
The bike has done 9000 miles and is 'over serviced' by my local BMW dealer.
I emailed BMW customer services today with a picture of the effected area but have heard nothing yet.
My question is, what if anything can be done ? I was told that extended warranty does not cover corrosion, but I think this was a problem waiting to happen for the last 2 years. I have seen lots of pictures of various parts corroding (front engine cover being the most common) but never on the engine casing just below the cylinder.
I will let you know the outcome, any advise in the meantime would be appreciated.

i reckon that for reasons of health and safety the paint that manufacturers use today are not as durable as those of the past - its not really that difficult a job to sand down the affected areas and recover with a decent drop of paint - i know we expect more however like most other things we buy today they don't make them like they used to
