Hi all,

In the search for more power, I'm going to be playing with alternative engine management systems on my 01 1150GS.

I'm looking for a (preferably broken) engine ECU that I can use for the new engine management. The idea is that I'll take an ecu, and gut it, so that it provides me with just a connector - a way of plugging into the bike so I can return the bike to the original ecu easily.

Anyone got a knackered ECU that they don't want anymore???

Cheers,

Mike.

Short answer - buy another bike ... one with all the 'power' you want.

Exactly what do you mean by 'power'?
More acceleration?
More top speed?
More what?

Think you'll find little to nothing to be gained by playing around with the ECU. Unless you also play around with other things - like the exhaust, cam, valves, compression ...

After all........ what do those engineers at B#W know about anything anyway - they only have multi million Euro budgets and years of experience doing it so I'm sure we could do better on our home PC. :P

Gecko - you'd better write to people like Techlusion and tell them they're wasting their time.
Are these the same engineers that designed many other parts on the BMW that others have complained about early failures, gearboxes, bevel drives, brakes, etc?
Every mass-produced product can either be improved upon or tailored more exactly for your needs.
The average owner can spend considerably more on any one area than the bean-counters at BMW will allow.
Frank is right, you can fine tune the engine by modifying the ECU, but it won't alter valve sizes, cam duration, etc.

Pop a BB Power Chip in, great result in power and smoooothness :thumb

I'll second that :thumb
Ypiece and a BB chip + couple of hours spannering=BIG improvement :thumb

I'll look forward to reading the results in due course then won't I  and I don't think techlusion uses home PC's for what they do....anyway shouldn't you be out fighting with the riot Police by now ? :koi

DTI , amonst others, make alternative engine management systems, that can be used along with the current sensors, these systems can be programmed, on a dyno, using a lap-top without a problem, it's not magic, it just appears that way to those who don't understand it :D

Take a look at

"During the learning process I've learned BMW has great engineering and its not easy to get around them and find cheap power compared to things like old 2v Ducati's. The easiest and best mods from when mine was stock were a K&N,Autolite conventional plugs, techlusion to address the just off idle lean spot."
