 On Tuesday she decided that single cylinder operation (and partial only then) was the way to go....

First hint was that she cut out with clutch in and idled at 750rpm sounding like a single thumper. Still managed to travel 50 miles to the dealer.... - I really think that these bikes are almost indestructible ;)

Into the dealer 90% compression loss on one side, turns out to be that a portion of the skirt around the nearside pistion has fractured away losing part of the rings on that piston, potential warranty claim, we will see...

But overall one dead engine and it seems the most cost effective way is to replace the engine so soon a 33k miles GSA with brand new engine [in fact most parts that can be replaced under waranty have been in the last 10k :-) ]

But whilst standing in the the showroom looking at the limited edition white(?) GSA thought "now there's a nice bike"... so on Friday I will have a new GSA while the old one is being repaired, then what to do with the old one....

Will transfer all the special bits to the new (cast wheels, shocks, wave disks, remus, radar detector etc).. and put back the standard parts (a lot never used)..

Question is - what is a 03 plate GSA,33k on the clock but with a brand new engine worth???

Why go for a new engine? Barely used pistons and cylinders can be sourced from places like Motorworks. The cylinder might even be ok. £200 for parts and a days work. That's assuming it's not a warranty job. Any ideas why the piston failed? Are you running the remus without a chip?

sounds like a faulty piston - or possibly running too hot / lean.
See what colour the deposits are on the crown - white and its too hot.

just rebuild it - new / used pistons/ barrels /oil pump etc - £700 ~

The deposits on the piston head were nice and black, it is looking more and more like a BMW Warranty pay out..

...and have been running Remus from day one and chip for the last 10,000 miles approx..

Will put the rebuilt/part built up on the board for sale, offers better than SSBK when they make their offer...
