i think the plastic engine guard on the F800GSA is crap and the the oil filter etc. is very exposed. I am thinking the two piece Wunderlich protectors from Motorworks or the one piece protector from Touratech.
Anyone any useful views?
Thanks

I`m saving up for the Cymarc version, produced by our very own Mark Hooton, with some dubious input from Tossers generally. Cost is similar (ish)

guard

fitted one of mark's to my lc, the black one looks good and ugly on the 800gsa, i like

Wunderlich gave me one of their sumpguards for our Iran, Pakistan, India overland trip .... it was a load of shite. With the extra bits to protect the oil filter and inter cooler there must have been about forty (40) separate pieces, tiny countersunk screws, little brackets etc ... it was total junk.

More crap got through, even allowed a small stone to get into the fan housing and while under armed escort in to Quetta, stopped the fan from coming on and overheated ... spitting boiling hot coolant all over the place

I put my original BMW guard (made by Touratech for them) back on as soon as I got home. One piece of alloy, four nuts and one bolt. In over 100,000 miles, including much off road, the stone in the fan has not been repeated with the OEM sumpguard.

+1 on the BMW guard.

Mines about 3 years old (40k miles-ish) and have just had it powder coated black as the alloy was looking tatty.
Looks great now, you could see a few dings through the powder coating so it's been doing it's job.

guard

The bmw or factory guard which came on my 800GSA is the plastic one, not the metal one!!! I am sure the metal one is fine. Marc Cymarc's guard looks as good as the bmw metal one and I believe is a little cheaper. Thanks for the heads up on the Wunderlich guard which I will now avoid.
