Had a really good run out on a 1200 LC today. Really like the bike and just about to order one.

Two questions for current owners.

1) How irritating is all the rattly noises at the front of the engine. Do they all do it? It seems to be a characteristic of the engine. BMW said it was down to the slipper clutch being at the front of the engine and also running 5w oil and the fact I was on a demo machine (And all that entails)

2) Can the gear lever be moved out? It seems to sit in a long way. Maybe just something I will have to get used to.

I was sure I can hear valves ringing.
When I went to book the first service, the Master Engineer from BMW was at Batersea with the visit and he said thats down to cam chain tensioner and nothing to worry about it goes a bit less noisy with engine temp up.

The noise from the front becomes acceptable when the Akrapovic exhaust system produces its cacophony from the back.

Have you ever ridden a Guzzi :eek

Yes mine is generally 'noisy'. Far noisier than my TC.

Biggest improvement in gear change I've found is using my Daytona Gtx boots vs my Sidi Vortice. Couldnt 'feel' the gear lever easily with Sidi but with the Daytonas it's a nice smooth change.

Yes, my WC is noisy. And there always seems to be a new noise down there. I am learning to just ignore it.

Out, you can't, but you can move the gear lever up (which is what fixed the original «in» position on my bike) wih the little adjuster and two nuts right behind it. Unscrew, adjust, tighten. have somebody do it for you with the bike on the center stand and you in the saddle. That way, you can readily tell when it's good.

I had the same issue with the gearstick and my modification i did was.
I removed the gear stick nob and fitted a machined spacer that brings the nob out further and bingo perfect.

You can buy from NN gear stick enlargers ! But they look big and ugly but may be your only option.

Sounds like a good idea. Just need to order the bike now.

Whoops, mine seems noisier after a ride than when it's cold, or so my wife says when I get back.

I had cam chain clatter on my K1200R which eventually, after some reluctance from Service (?), was fitted with an updated tensioning system. Maybe they haven't learned from the previous cam chain fiasco.

When I queried another noise, like a tinkling or pinking sound from the sides they said it's the fuel injectors.

The engine sounds great with ear plugs in !!!!!!!!

Ditto the CCT.

When I asked to hear another new GS there was a definite large clatter as it first fried up. Then it quietened down. Just like my old 1150 before the new CCT was installed.

In fact at low speed the engine on the WC sounds just like my 1150. On the bike I was trialling anyway. Not what I expected. And I hope it gets sorted in the near future.
