I’ve finally gotten round to obtaining a letter from Allan Jefferies confirming that my engine was changed under warranty so I can get the V5C amended.

The 15 digit engine number stamped on the casings has an asterisk as the sixth and last digits, but AJ’s didn’t include the last asterisk in their letter.

The chassis number on the frame starts and ends with an asterisk and these aren’t included in the number on the V5C, so I assume I ignore the last asterisk when amending my V5C engine number i.e. so it’s identical to the AJ letter?

If someone could check their engine number and V5C it’d be greatly appreciated :beerjug: Yes I know I could just ask AJ’s, but they’re hard work at times....
 
why bother? keep the letter in your file and all will be well
 
Do you need a letter? In the past I've just filled in the new engine number on the V5C and sent it off.

^^^^ This Fill in section 7 on V5c sign and date it post it and allow four weeks for the replacement to turn up Job's a fish :beerjug:

In answer to your questions Sven. Mine are in the same format as yours (V5 - no asterisk and bike asterisk on engine and frame).

Because paperwork can and does gets lost and I wouldn't buy a used bike with a engine number that doesn't match the V5C if it wasn't backed up with paperwork.

As for not requiring the letter when you change the engine number on the V5C, the DVLA can be sniffy about engine swaps and it is their whim to demand either proof of where the engine came from or an engineers report regarding the change and in the meantime hold your V5C at ransom until you comply .

Try selling a bike without a V5C

In answer to the other comments, the DVLA website clearly states that you have to declare an engine number change and asks for supporting evidence
