Has anyone had this problem and is it covered under the warrantee?, bike is not yet a year old ,

Paint has bubbled but not yet cracked or flaked but i think its just a matter of time

I've just had a valve cover warranty replaced on my 08 GSA for bubbling under the paint.

I've never seen bubbling on a gearbox casing before

I'd advise the dealer of what you've found and request that they sort it under warranty :thumb

bubbling

had this bubbling in one spot on the side of the engine, front engine cover paint bubbling and peeling and the usual rust on frame

had front engine cover, and entire bike sub-frame replaced (warranty)

said they couldn't do anything about the bubbling in certain areas without
replacing the engine itself. but its not so bad.. very hard to see areas anyway

Ive just found a large bubble which is burst underneath ,right beside the cat its through to the undercoat which looks like a light green ,I found it while giving it a good spraying with the scotoiler f650 , Should i bring it to the attention of bmw while still under warranty its an 06 ,It would only need a quick squirt with paint Is it worth the hassle ????:augie:flag

paint

I would bring it to their attention and tell them you are worried about it spreading. And just ask them can they do anything about it.

after all the bike is under warranty,

I am sure they can get the proper paint to patch it.

if they cant then as you said.. sort it out yourself..

If it's an 06 it'll be under an extended warranty which I don't believe covers corrosion :blast

That's shocking  My 06 at 23000 miles is mint apart from one absolutely tiny mark on the upper part of the final drive casing which I believe has been caused by a stone :blast

Well all sorted under warranty, New gearbox fitted as it was cheaper than a gearbox strip down . happy now:)

.........that was an expensive bit of paint for BMW!

So, do they not have powdercoating technology in Germany?

It's incredible that they just keep wasting huge amounts of money on warranty claims year after year instead of just fixing the underlying problem. I've never understood that (and a lot of other things) about the thinking at the Beemerco.

Oh, well...

New EU regs require you to use water based paints apparently. So although you and I can powercoat individual parts, you can't use it on a massed produced item.

The jap bikes suffer similar problems.

Oh, OK. That explains why they don't do it now, but I wonder why they didn't do it in the past? Seems like I've been seeing reports about corrosion and paint problems on these bikes for years.

Back in the 90's when the T595 Daytona's and T509 Speed Triples came out they had a lot of issues with the powdercoating flaking off the sumps. After changing probably hundreds of sumps under warranty at a cost of £1000's to the factory they came up with a solution

They stopped powdercoating the sumps on new bikes :augie

You think this is bad - bloody Ducatis are 10 times worse - flaky engine paint seems to afflict almost every Monster I have seen - still don't think they have fixed it and it makes a beautiful bike look really crap after only a couple of years.
