help, how can i stop the engine paint lifting around the alternator belt cover on my 1200 gs and what's the best way to repair this,i think this is a common fault.i have never been out in the salt and wash my bike oftern.thanks.

If it`s still under warranty take it back, if not remove the cover, rub the area of corrosion down then give it a lick of silver hammerite. I put some hammerite special metals primer on before my silver.

Good write up & top job done :thumb2 Mine wasn`t half as bad as that though but my job also only took about an hour all in. I bet that didn`t! :D

Hamerite:thumb2

I wonder if BMW know about this magic paint that dosnt fall off things you put it on?:augie

Take the cover off and remove the 'sponge' behind. Liberally douse the sponge in something flamable and set fire to it!

The only downside of removing this noise damper is an engine 'whistle' at 2000 rpm, although you cant hear it when riding.

Smudger.
