Need a bit of advice please. Just doing a bit of light cosmetic refresh of my engine, gearbox etc to get rid of the staining and corrosion. I've got this far and was going to degrease, panel wipe, tack cloth, etch prime and paint with Techcote. Any other suggestions for a durable finish?

Sounds about right to me, I think the only other thing I would do would be to de-burr any sharp edges to give the paint chance to adhere properly.

It's called Starchem Synstrip. 5 litres for about £25.00 but you need to be really careful using it ( mask, eye protection, nitrile gloves etc and no exposed skin or you will know about it! )

Yup, I can also vouch for Starchem stripper, it's really good stuff ;)

As far as your painting goes, it looks like you've got it sussed out, just remember, cleanliness is next to godliness!!

!!CAUTION!!

Some probably know this, but for those who dont!

Not all paint stripper is good for Aluminium or alloy parts.
The wrong stuff can severly damage aluminium and lead to hydrogen embrittlement, which basicly makes the aluminuim look like honeycomb.
problem is, right now, I cant remember which stuff is good and bad.

Just do some research and checking

I bought some methylene chloride paint stripper of eBay, and it's better than synstrip, because it's thinner, not as gel like,

I bought it, but the supplier was removed from eBay, though you can still buy it on the bay, but not for paint stripping,

You have to wear gloves, because it burns, and in a well ventilated area, because the fumes are bad, but it works great,

It has no effect on aluminium, synstrip has no effect either,

I tried nitromors gel on my fork bottoms last week. I'd have had more success using nail varnish remover.... It didn't touch paint whatsoever. Might have to get some of this stronger stuff for the engine paint next winter....
