Hi all,

I am new to the GS scene. Just bought a pre loved 1200 GSW.

Looking to protect it a bit.

Whats best to go for first (and why)?

Cylinder head guards or lower crash bars?

Also any recommendations and/or pics of yours fitted.

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the site :beerjug:

If you look in the for sale and wanted section there are an as new set of bmw engine crash bars for sale at a good price.

There is plenty of choice, Touratech, Wunderlich, SW Motech to name a few. It comes down to your budget and the style you fancy. They come in chrome, black and silver.

The choice is yours :)

I have these there as new TT engine bars (For Sale) they come with all stainless fittings and i powder coated all the little alloy spacers black so they won't corrode .

@ Ding-Dong: Out of interest, why are you selling them? I quite like the Altrider ones.

Because i brought these covers.

Therefore removing the bars as there no longer needed, having both are a bit belt n braces.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen those guards somewhere, but cant remember the name. I like those.

Are there any advantages over those than the bars? And are the plastic ones better than Alu?

Thanks for any help.

They are the MachineArt covers. I've also taken my bars off and fitted these, as I don't go offroad.

The plastic covers have a thick rubber membrane so in the event of a drop the rubber will hopefully take the shock out of the impact, the metal covers have no such protection and may or may not offer as much protection, one thing cylinder covers will offer and that is protection from stone chips, I've seen several with huge chips on the cylinders.

I prefer it without the bars it looks less cluttered and much cleaner.

Touratech ones - if you subscribe I have a set up for sale in the For Sale and Wanted section ;)
