OK, a question prompted by the thread on engine braking, also on an 08 GSA...my new-to-me bike has an Akra end can and has been decatted, but how would I know if it's had an engine remap?

If I took it to someone (Hilltop?) would they be able to tell it was already done? Or is the remap required anyway when the exhaust system has been changed so significantly?

Sorry for the noob questions, but this is my first time with an EFI bike :-D !

Thanks guys!

As far as I understand it, there is no easy way to tell if the ECU has been remapped, but I dare say the fella at Hilltop could tell you if you gave him your license plate or perhaps VIN number. I would have thought he makes a note somewhere of the bikes he has remapped.

Of it pulls like a train with no mid range hesitance it's likely to have been remapped. Otherwise you won't know.
Geoff recommends posh petrol in any bike with non OEM exhaust.

If I was Hilltop - I'd want a bit more assurance before divulging that on the phone............ (if it has been re-mapped)

Talk to Geoff, and offer to send a scan of the V5 as proof of ownership and contact details.

Might not be long before Insurance Loss Adjusters - start phoning, posing as owners?

All the advice to contact Geoff will only work if Hilltop did the remap (if any). TTBOMK Hilltop is not the only place that does such work - not by a very long chalk indeed.

Knowledge from the car world is that is easy to read if the ecu has been remapped if you have the right kit. Cannot see that a bike will be any different, anyone reputaple doing remapping should always read and save the vehicles base map before doing any work.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I picked the bike up from mid-Wales in April, so I'd imagine it's unlikely to have been done by Hilltop, although she now lives considerably closer to Leicester!

She does pull well, but I don't have much to compare the performance against. Valid point Blackal, maybe I'm better not knowing the answer to my question, because it didn't even occur to me when sorting out the insurance before collection!

I've got plenty of bling on the wish list to buy first, so I think I'll just concentrate on enjoying the ride for at least this year.

Cheers
Rob
