Can anyone give me any idea as to how wide the engine is.
I am seriously considering trading in my hayabusa for the 1200GS, however i need to get the bike between two pillars of the patio wall, about 75cm, to get to my shed. The wall cannot be knocked down, believe me, her indoors just won't hear of it :(
I tried to get the info from BMW but they only give the overall width of the bike, 815cm without mirrors. This is not a problem as my Pillars are only about 70cm (2 feet ) high.

Any help is much appreciated.

However check that you can get the bars through, if the pillars are narrow/shallow a shimmey will get you through, if they are wide/deep................. best bet is to book a test ride and try it.

same as :thumb

but you'll need to remove any engine bars each time you put the bike away :D
Yes. Just measured our 12GS and 740mm with the black plastic guards.

Many thanks for the replys, i think i might be in with a chance. My "Busa" gets through now, interesting thing is the 2 exhausts seem to be the widest point on the bike at the moment.
The test ride idea might also help, although i would need to be carefull :mmmm
A slight accident to one of the pillars :D might be called for, just have to keep the ear plugs in for a couple of days !

I can just imagine the call to the dealer, "Errr, can you come and collect the GS, Oh... and fetch some vaseline."
:)

How wide?

I hate to be pessimistic but I don't think that you will do it! I sometimes put my 1200GS into my workshop; The door opening is 80 cm wide and I can JUST do it by leaning the bike slightly and turning the bars etc; etc; but the doorframe is only about 70 mm thick. Remember the widest point is the handlebars - about 90cm. Seriously a new door + doorframe is not that expensive.

How about posting this in the Ireland section to see if one of those fine fellows would be willing to pop round to see if their bike fits? :nenau
