Funny how BMW call it a enhancement instead of "what it is" which is a recall:unsure: As if it rains heavy the start button may let in water and it won't start.. As one poor guy find out on tour around Portugal and to make things even worse he had his steering lock on so the bike at to be dragged out of a under ground car park and loaded on a flat bed recovery truck and could not carry on with his tour and make his way back home then got his r1300gs back 3 weeks later :( so make sure your starter button is enhanced/replaced/repaired or what ever BMW want to call it! My r1300 gs already had the replacement starter relay before I collected my new r1300 gs on the 1st September 2024.. also ask about other enhancement /recall concerning the BMW Top box where they replace the mechanism but was told my Top box as the new designed mechanism as it was not the first of the top boxes supplied.. Not really sure what the top box problem was I understand there's been a few instances where the top box as fell off and bounce down the road but that may have been user error not making sure the top box as been located correctly the other defect I've heard is the winding mechanism on the top box is a bad/weak design and as failed on some top boxes.. My r1300 gs was not one of the first batch r1300 gs's so the starter recall was already replaced.. also had no other problems/faults that have been reported with the first batch of r1300 gs's.. up to now no regrets(y)

Slightly off topic and I do feel your pain but strictly speaking it isn’t a recall as there is a proper definition of what makes a recall and it’s something like ‘an issue that happens without warning and is likely to cause death or injury’

So if your mates pride and joy decided to shut down in the 3rd lane of the M6 in rush hour and it’s a known issue then it’s a recall, if it won’t start when he’s pulling it out of the garage it won’t be a recall.

BMW might call it an enhancement but DVSA would know it as a service action and they won’t be interested unless it falls into the unpredictable/risk of injury category.

In fairness to DVSA in the UK they do put a lot of pressure on manufacturers to identify and complete recalls, but have to find their way through the bullshit from disgruntled owners and manufacturers who don’t want to take the cost of fixing something.

Daffy thanks for the interpretation(y) but it can certainly happen without warning.. suppose it could cause death or injury if your bike won't start and your trying to get away from someone wielding a big axe.. :DD
