Was must thinking to myself (a common occurrence usually with disappointing results 😊)...having recently purchased a 2nd hand 1250 GS from a good member on here, I was pondering how will BMW know of the change of ownership and to send any required communications to myself as the new owner? Is there a registration process to follow?

I belive if it's a recall(safety issue etc ) they contact DVLA then send out to current keeper.

I am happy to be contradicted if wrong

Cheers for the help folks. I've registered my ownership of the bike via the BMW app. One the bike leaves DVLA records (it was exported from UK to Republic of Ireland) I think the list of owners comes to an end. No way for BMW to know who the new or future owners are, unless it's manually registered, or brought into a stealership for a service.

if the frame no. is on the Irish equivalent of DVLA and there is a recall, likely to be issued across all of Europe, won't you get a recall notice via the Irish "DVLA" system? BMW should be able to query all national registration systems for model codes and date ranges to get relevant frame numbers and addresses. Or don't you have that level of sophistication across the water?

Alternatively just contact a BMW motorcycle dealer and tell them that you are the new owner.

There also used to be a tear out page in the owners manual for the previous or new owner to complete and send off to BMW.

Ring duffys and ask. You more than likely won't be contacted here outside of first owner or being maintained at the dealer
