Hi, 18 months since I last posted here, since I moved along to the R1200GS section. I keep looking and am pleased to see no new horror stories and things seem to have settled down on the reliability. Having covered 36000 miles with no trouble the F800 is still my all time Great bike. My wife's F650 with 36000 has also been trouble free.
The problem now for me is my riding friend (also a former F800GS owner) has not gelled with his new Tiger 800 and is swapping it for a new F800GS in white, and I'm feeling a little envious. I may be back on a vertical twin very soon, the 1200LC has no wow factor for me.

Come back to the 800 twin side!
I keep thinking about changing to a 1200GS but my 650GS twin still does everything so very well that I am not so sure if I would regret selling her. Espically as it is the first BMW I brough and I never thought I would own a GS!

Out of interested what exasctly about the 1200GS is it that your not enjoying?

Serverdave, I am enjoying the R1200GS Iv done 19000 miles in the last 18 months. When I bought it I needed a two up touring bike until my wife got back on her own. Its done a marvellous job and is comfy etc, but it lacks the nimbleness of the F800 and use about 20% more fuel. The shaft drive is a constant worry although not many are failing these days.
Its the new LC1200GS which is failing to wow me over, and at £12000 for a bit of kit is just too expensive for me.

I kind of understand what your saying: As someone who has owned a 2004 , 1200GS from new I found the 800GS skittish and twitchy..and it reacted to accidental throttle input instantly. Therefore for me I found the 800 harder to ride in traffic and a bit buzzy.
That's not to say I'm denigrating the 800, if I'd not had many years on the 1200 I wouldn't have found the 800 not to my liking.

Horses for courses and all that, but bare in mind the trade-in hit....
