Got V9 with a new Quest a few months back.

I get an error when trying to open garmin files other people send so thought I'd check for updates.

I get this error message. unfortunately Garmin are always closed when I get around to trying.

Any suggestions?

The device itself seems to get through to the server using the update wizard which I download from Garmin.

MapSource Version 6.13.4

I think your problem is that your Mapsource V9 has not been updated to latest Version. 6.13.4 You can check by opening Mapsource on your PC click> Help then> about Mapsource. Check the version loaded. If not as above you need to update. :)

If not latest version this is where to go

Seems to be 6.11.6

Don't understand the bit about going to com not co.uk

The site that opens when I login as a user is garmin.com

I cannot remember exactly when I registered it but assume It was the device and the software gets linked to this via the unlock code.

I note for new users on the site it say reg a new device or software (if purchased separately)

Just tried it for the umpteenth time and the server connected long enough to tell me there is a 45Mb update do I wish to download

then it fails again with server error?

Can you force it to different servers?

I'd leave it for now, the server is most likely under pressure at the mo, try again later using the link I sent you in previous reply. Checking for updates from Mapsource V9 itself never seems to work.

The link appears to be working OK, downloading it at 238Kb/sec right now:thumb

For what it's worth, if you try and update from within Mapsource it seldom recognises there's an update available, and often won't even connect to the update server.

Much easier to just go to the website and check for updates, and download the update if necessary.

Sorry - didn't mean to send you on a wild goose chase. In the past I've had real problems getting onto the Garmin site via .co.uk but .com has always been fine.
