Is there a way to test if the rear esa self levelling is working?
I have a 2017 gs with 8500 miles on and i went out today and it seemed to be lower, could get my feet all the way down, went down the road and went from road to dynamic and can feel it is stiffer but then back into road and seems really bouncy. Going over bumps seen a little less plush but not sure if I'm imagining it now.
Do i need to get dealer to check or is there a test i can do first?
thanks

With the engine running it should noticeably rise and lower via the lh handebar switch - that would be a good place to start - at least you'd know it was responding to manual input.

Road to Dynamic sounds like the engine mode, not suspension - min to max are the suspension settings via the h bar switch.

On mine it’s all auto, thinks it’s supposed to work it out on its own, think this may be one step to far 😂😂

I think Auto pre-load setting for later ESA is more intelligent than one might think. For example, I think it can detect when I'm getting a bit tired and lower itself when I come up to a stop. Also, I suspect the on-board sensors detect when the road's sloping at junctions and lower the suspension accordingly so I can get a foot down comfortably. How does it work for you?

:hippy

if i go into it in manual i can get it to min or max and bike goes up and down but put in auto and seems to do nothing. wonder if it sets itself after its been on the move for a while ?
will get dealer to check it over just in case i think

Auto only moves when you get on the bike, and it senses the weight and sets itself, Min and Max do move for the eye, when bike is at a stop.

I have had 5 varying GS models, 4 with semi active ESA, last year I binned a 16 plate triple black in Spain, I’m a big lad and at the time was riding one up ‘one helmet’ As someone in here said I went into the bend too fat! Bottomed out the suspension and it slid away.

Anyway replacement bike GS Rallye Sport TE, Auto suspension, at first I could only just get my toes down if set on Auto, to be honest with suspension set in Auto and suspension also set in dynamic the ride is just sublime the auto adjustment is head and shoulders above the older semi active ESA. It’s the only reason I would not change bikes at the moment even though I’ve lost 4 1/4 stone Since binning the TB, the auto adjustment sometimes is only noticeable after you have been running a while.

Had bike in for a service Yesterday, when I rode out it was low flat footing even, by the time I stopped at the lights back to tip toes again (Nearly dropped the Ferker).

If you had it set in say minimum then set to auto nothing will change on the bike till you move off and I find it takes maybe a minute for it too find it’s level. By the time I get to my third or fourth traffic lights it’s picked it’s level.

Yes, the AUTO mode adjustment only takes place once you are moving, as stated in the manual. This can lead to the odd issue if you frequently swap between solo and two up, as next time you get on the bike it will be set for the last load, so can initially be too high when solo if last time out was two up, and vice versa.

Totally agree, good advice to the less length in the legs brigade, drive slowly and be careful at first stop until the Auto setting has found its mark, according to the weight it feels on the bike.
