Anybody been?? Miles and miles of graded gravel stone forest roads to ride in gentle hilly country. Just the type of roads for the GS to feel a bit roughty with some dirt under its wheels :D Met one 4X4 in 20 miles.

No but I've ridden and driven past the junction many times over the years on my way up and down to Langholm. There's usually a sign that indicates when it's open. I think it's only three miles long though, isn't it?

The main timber road is only about three miles long, its all the other gravel roads that lead off into the hills from the Eskdalemuir end that add to the fun. Rode about 20 miles with only the one 4X4 sighted plus some forestry machinery sitting parked up for the weekend.

Ok - does it say anything about rights of access at the end of the road? I'm usually too busy watching out for gravel on the road on the left-hander as I'm going South.

Can't say I saw a rights of access notice. It was signed Timber-road Open :green gri

At the Eskdalemuir end the track off to the right has three houses further along it before the track turns into the hillside so there is some traffic movement up there besides just the timber people

Just fancied a ride some where a wee bit different besides sticking to tarmac and because I am always curious :Catrun where wee wiggly roads to nowhere actually take you.

There's always the road a bit further Norith on the B709 which goes from a 90 deg right-hander across to Tibbie Sheils on the South end of St Mary's Loch. I think they removed the right of vehicular access to it a couple of years ago, though,

Was at the Glen Cafe a while back when this old chap (Yeah, I know!) driving a Discovery came over and pointed to the old road by Tibbieshiels ... "Can I get to Eskadalemuir if I take that road"? "You're welcome to try but I'd suggest an easier way!"

Also plenty of timber roads down by loch doon ,I used to go down there on my drz 250 traillie must be miles of them , I used to take an ordnance survey map that way you can see where they go , some go in a loop others jus come to a dead end , there is a forest drive down loch doon that goes all the way to the glentrool/straiton road it must be about 10miles of gravel , it passes some nice lochs .. Im gonna head down there when the weather gets better on my new to me r1100 gs :D

Yes done both these and the eskdalemuir timber road.
Overall a pretty good surface - pr4's could do them easily if it's not too wet!

Was on a few of the timber roads just before christmas , not a soul about , good fun , will be heading upto Loch Doon again to meet West coast gser I think :beerjug:
