Essential tools / spares list for trip

Heading down to Morocco end of March. Riding down / back, to include Morocco all in 8 days - roughly 3000 miles I reckon. Bit of a 'Moroccan dash' like others on here have done in recent years!

Just wondered whether anyone had a essential spares / tools checklist already prepared to save me the trouble...

Thinking of light spares such as bulbs, o-rings, alternator belt etc...

Change the alternator belt before you go,sorted...something less to carry.
Put oil in 500ml lucozade bottles, throw away when empty.
Temp puncture/ plug repair kit, cable ties, black tape,small roll of gaffa, tiny bottle of wd40(robert dyas £1),spare bulbs, hi viz vest, mini first aid kit,some off these things are legal requirement,make sure your bike tool kit is complete.
Change the final drive oil seal afore you go.Fresh tyres pumped to the correct laden pressure.spare glasses if you need them.
Spend several hours before you go, fettling, lubing,and generally going over the bike and your kit.
RAC european cover,several credit cards,copies of your e111,passport, driving license,tel numbers for your credit card companies.copies of your ferry ticket with their phone number.a phone.a list of numbers of everyone elses phone number.maps,cheepy compass.a sense of humour, grit, determination.

12v compressor, spare key tied somewhere.

Toolkit that covers your bike.

Puncture repair kit for you kind of tyres.

Tape.

Wire.

Multitool knife tactical axe pocket thing.

Don't worry - they have shops.

Don't go without a spare belt, even if you fit a new one.. To not to be without something so simple to replace, that if it breaks would leave you stranded.

Take the old one as a spare, it takes up no room or any weight.

Don't change the final drive oil seal if it isn't leaking. I've seen too many new seals leak just after fitting.
Again, just take a spare with you.

I always carry a spare FD bearing & seal, one of each plug (old ones replaced at the last service), plus the usual bulbs and fuses.

Even if you can't fix something yourself, it's bloody annoying to find someone who can repair it but the absence of the parts stops him.

Ifs, Buts, Maybe's, what if this. what if that,sometimes the woes and worries of getting this and that right can spoil the trip.Enjoy the ride.
As MR K, says dont worry they have shops...
Also look at what you want to take with you, lay it out on the floor,then leave half of it behind, your bike will love forever.

Little off topic but.....I'm told the Spanish equivalent of the RAC covers Morocco as well.
Oh, and there's a BM dealer in Casablanca.

Take the things that commonly go on your model/year of bike.
Take spare clutch & brake levers.

Another good idea i heard was take a second wallet with an expired credit card and a few dollars in it,just in case you get mugged.you can have the last laugh.mind you i think bikers dont really get mugged, they look too ard.

Cheers chaps. Some good advice there. Just completed the 24,000 mile service but have a spare alternator belt, so will change that and carry the old one as a spare - sound advice.

Some nice tips Nomad. Shall spend several days fettling...can't have a bike trip without a good fettle. That's half the fun n'est pas?

oh and go wh smiths and get a picture travel book, if you cant talk to the natives, you can point at it.
i can order a twin bedded room with a shower and 2 beers in 3 languages now!!

and on the subject of keys, if you are riding as a pair swap spare keys.

Here's a good idea while your passing on all your experiance - How many bikes have you actually personally got back on the road while on a tour, rather than waiting for someone else to arrive and help them.

i probably mend around 2500-3000 cars and bikes a year, but hey i'm not counting,all at the side of the road, i add,lost count of the number of bikes ive mended spilling out of brands hatch. i'm a knight of the road you know...
been in my current job 10 years plus, ill let you do the maths.
weve done at least 20,000 miles abroad and no breakdowns, but hey im not counting.prep is the key....
oh and if you want 25% off just ask, (only appicable to gs gurus)mortals need not apply.
