Beware when visiting Spain/pyrenees and SW France - ETA (spanish terrorist group) have stated that they are going to target British tourists this year :eek

Over 800 have died in past 40 years (no Brits, yet)
This was taken from an article in The Times today
 
any particular reason?? dont like invading bmw hordes from the north perhaps??
 
I wish the 'Times' would be more accurate with it's headlines which should say 'English' not British, below is the quote from ETA

An Eta commander, using the alias Gaeuko, said: “If these things do not change, these oppressed territories will become leisure areas for the English, for Parisians and people from Bordeaux.”

PS 3 years ago I was in Alicante when an ETA bomb blew up a cafe near the sea front, I was a passenger inside a car about half a mile away having been ordered to leave the area by the spanish plod, when I heard the 'whump' noise of the explosion it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, it really was quit scary and I was nowhere near it .
 
I'll keep a low profile on my planned tour of Spain/pyrenees and SW France in August then :blast

I'll be there in a couple of weeks so I'll let ya'll know if I die in a terrible ball of flames from an ETA bomb :thumb

Were in the Porsche too, that should wind em up a little bit more :blast:blast

Were driving through Biarritz too, before heading straight through the basque region on our way to Portugal and southern Spain.

That's pepped it up for me, I thought it was going to be a boring trip in the car :clap:clap:clap:clap
 
I thought ETA had stopped killing people and was going to resolve it's issues via the political process?

Or have I got that wrong?

Sadly yes :(

There are many factions within ETA. The moderates were in control for a while, but, recently the more active elements have taken over.

The mad thing is the Basque population is massively against what ETA stand for, it really is a VERY small bunch of nutters, yet they are very capable of causing havoc if they choose to - there used to be (still is :nenau) a big Celtic connection between them, the Irish Republicans and Bretons with munitions and stuff flowing between them.
