ETK with Windows 7

Has anyone managed to the the ETK (2008) parts system to work on windows 7 (64 bit)
Its installed, but won't start. Gives java error.
It worked fine previously on XP, but won't work on a newer PC.
I've found some instructions about altering a couple of lines in the javaclient properties, but I tried that and it didn't help.
Any ideas?

have you tried running win 7 in XP mode?

Or if you only have plain old Windows 7 and have a Win2k or XP install disc you could setup a virtual machine http://www.virtualbox.org/

I use it all the time to run some of the old software I need for work.

I've got windows 7 Home Premium, which doesn't give me the option of XP mode. That was the first thing I thought of doing, until I found it wouldn't work!
I might give the virtual machine a go, as I've got an old version of Photoshop elements that won't run either. (I've got an XP Pro disc)
