etrex?

Some of the Etrex range are Mapsource compatible. I have the "basic" one which I use as a back up for marine use. My mate has the more fancy one which he has just loaded some routes through Libya/Algeria on for his next trip across North Africa.... show her the cheap one.. then buy the expensive one..... Joking aside, I wouldn't use one on my bike. Screen too small, memory not big enough Etc... :)

o.k. - i know a lot more now.
Thanks for that folks :thumb
info much appreciated.

The e-trex range is really useful.

You do have to watch the memory capacity if you're going to load mapsource mapping. I have the "Vista" which has a 24Mb memory, enough for 1/3 the UK of "Roads&Recreation" maps. Some of the other models only have 8Mb.

If you are young enough to have decent eye sight the screen is readable as you're riding. I used to navigate all around Europe with it on the bike. Then in the evening, in a strange city, you can take it with you as a street map.

I was going to sell mine when I got an SP3, but it's such a flexible tool that I decided to keep it for walking and other things like recording tracklogs of flights over Hawii and the Grand Canyon. You can even fire it up at 35000 feet and it'll tell you how fast your Boeing is doing.

I've just checked the Garmin website. They've just launched a "Vista C". which has a colour screen and does autorouting and has a USB port for quicker map loading. $321.

It depends on what your purpose and your budget is.
I've got the Legend C, and previously had the Legend. The most basic ones (like the yellow one) don't do much. But if you don't need much, then not a problem.

The only and large enough gripe I have with mine is the sh1tty level of details on the basemap! Not even the A5 through Milton Keynes is on the map! The Legend has got a better basemap than the newer Legend C

Depending on what you want, you might find an eTrex suitable - but if you want a road-going GPS then you'll probably find that the Quest is the one that gives you best bang-for-the-buck right now.

Also be aware that buying from eBay mostly gives you american devices with american basemaps - not good!
