My 2013 engine is getting replaced under warranty and I have been told it will be replaced with a new Euro 4 version. What do all of you with this engine in your triple blacks think of it? Heard it hasn't quite got the mid range, is this true?

Not sure, but as a tip some of the people who were offered an engine swap who kicked up a fuss got an entire bike replacement... that would be my preference. Rightly or wrongly when I was looking at pre owned 2014 GS' I avoided the ones with warranty swap engines.

Hmmm not sure about this, it takes more than the engine for euro 4. I would make sure everything else is replaced to be sure it runs properly.

My black paint finish 2014 GSA engine was replaced with a Euro 4 a few weeks back due to paint corrosion issues and I've just had my first 1000 Klms service.

I'm not a technical expert but the gearbox is definitely better than before and it may be 'placebo effect' but I'm happy with the motor which seems a bit smoother and with better power delivery.

In fairness to BMW they met the claim without quibble.

As above, I had a new engine fitted in my GSA a couple of weeks ago for the latest Euro 4 type and it is definitely smoother. I've not noticed any deficiency in the mid-range either :D

slightly of topic, but how does engine swap claim goes about on a used bike? It is a late 2014 model and paint starting to flick off at the seams between motor and gearbox.

come on there are a million posts on about this on here you lazy fecker:D

Try this for starters:

Step 1: Obtain telephone number of your chosen BMW dealer.
Step 2: Pick up telephone handset. Dial number.
Step 3. Speak to BMW dealer.

This is good news. Will hope that mine is the same!

During my test ride I noticed a lack of omph compared to my 16 bike. If you currently have the engine with the lighter flywheel you may notice this even more. At a guess I would say power is the same, but euro 4 has dumbed down its delivery. However, I expect yours will retain its original exhaust etc so will still be euro3 spec, the best of both worlds :-)

The gearbox selects first a lot quieter than before, but otherwise feels the same up and down the box.

If you have a silver finished engine, I wonder if they will fit a black finished one?

Silver finish I have been told.

Nice clutch and box, it may be only very slightly down on mid-range punch around 4,500/5000rpm, but it's very smooth with good fuelling all the way through from tickover to rev-limiter. :augie

A nice motor!

Excellent, as long as it doesn't corrode it sounds like I will be very happy.

Spray it with a generous helping of Scottoiler FS 365 every time after cleaning and you will have no issues.

After the initial concern the dealer has informed me that although Euro 4 the engine will still be mapped as my Euro 3 one is currently, so no change to power or delivery, just a better gear box and no corrosion!

That's not strictly true

I coated my original engine repeatedly with FS365 and sadly it didn't prevent the bubbling under the powder coating :blast

exactly,UNDER the powder coating the problem stems from the casting process apparently
