Euro 4 vs Euro 3 R1200GS

I get my E4 GS delivered on the 28th, so great to read the feedback as I purchased mine without even trying it.

I've previously owned a 2013 GS TE and a 2015 GSA TE, both great bikes but the E4 sounds like it has some great improvements. I've purchased the Akra slip on that I plan to fit the day its delivered so maybe that will improve the missing midrange that's been mentioned?

I'd be quite interested to know that too?

The BMW man at the NEC told me the E4 Akro is different to the E3 one, probably just bigger baffles for more sound absorbing? He said the E3 Akro will fit but the dealer can't fit it. Just as well it's an easy swop!

That's sounds about right. I never noticed and low down fuelling problems with the E4, it was just fine as slow speeds.

E3 or E4 (triple black or standard) it still looks way better than the updated model IMHO. :)

Gold brakes ... now that's cheap , may as well own a Honda . Sorry but the older bike is sooooooo much better .
Gold ...yuk And Gold Forks FFS .. reminds me of a Tart in a Bentley all show no class
And that stuuuuuupid sticker ,,,,, I KNOW ITS A GS ffs

Fur coat & no knickers. I agree with you.:thumb

A TB GS with the fangs blacked looks loads better than the new one with the gold forks & calipers.

It's not likely to - if anything, it will make your midrange weaker.

I don't particularly like the gold brakes and definitely not the decal. Mine doesn't have gold brakes or decal so hopefully I don't get sent down to the uncool wall!

The way I understand from speaking to my dealer and reading the latest info the `new` 2017 bike available in Feb/March is obviously euro4 spec but is only available in White, Black and Ice Chocy colour with gold bits. Plus the `Rally model. These new ones also have the latest self leveling suspension which is not on the 2017 models being sold now. My dealer is offering discounts of about £1000 if a early 2017 spec (not the March spec) is ordered before year end.
So can someone clarify the exact mechanical difference in spec between the two bikes?
Cheers....

New bike (March 2017) has hill hold control, improved traction control, DTC, and dynamic self levelling ESA. Slight changes to the front bodywork. Mine is due at my dealer mid February, on the road 1st March.

Yes it does. Gold forks and calipers on a modern GS look shite.:rob;)

No they don't !

Black frames and engines just look cheap and grotty, always, and black wheels look shit. Put it all together and you get one big black lump of "nothingness"

There should be an option for those that want it. Take one new GS and dip it in a tank of black paint. Call it the Special Black and the suckers will pay a grand extra.:barf:barf:barf

I hope that the DSL/ESA has a manual override. Sometimes when I'm carrying full luggage and pillion, and I'm doing something tricky like needing to make a tight turn in a knarly pot-holed off-road car park, I pull up and use the esa to lower the bike down from it's 2-helmet full height setting down to a single helmet just to gain a bit more foot hold on the ground which can be quite useful when your a hobbit.
The manual adjustment can also be useful when parking the bike. When the bike could do with a bit more (or less) lean on the side stand, I'll set the esa to lift or lower the bike accordingly.

New bike (March 2017) has hill hold control for those that can't use a clutch, improved traction control, DTC, and dynamic self levelling ESA, all of which you'll never be able to notice over the current model. Slight changes to the front bodywork.

Fixed :thumb:green gri

That's makes for a very good point! I have and regularly do the same, being able to do that seems very handy and sometimes it has been a necessity!

Brown FTW:D well I hope so cos I've bought one without seeing it.
It'll probably be crap and I'll end up painting it black!

Good idea that. I'm not vertically challenged but there has been the odd occasion 2 up on a gravel track when more foot hold would have been nice.
