I have had a 750GS for 3 years and it's a peach.

I recently got a Kawasaki Z900RS and it's been so disappointing as the engine feels virtually binary between power on/ power off when you open/close the throttle. Euro 5 seems to be the culprit & the effect has been to turn a good looking, nice handling bike into one I just cannot get to grips with. The last straw is the way the power comes on with a thump if you add a bit whilst cornering - it just feels unsafe. I've read a bit online & there are a few article that say the high revving sports bike are much more affected by the Euro 5 regs than twins.

I've sat on a couple of 1250RS and they feel like they'd be a nice fit for me.

So - a question to the 1250RS crew - have you noticed Euro 5 made the throttle more "jerky" when you open/close the throttle?

Thanks very much.

I have a 2023 1250RS March build, EURO 5. I highly recommend a test ride. Had a 1250GS 2019. The RS has the best gearbox yet in the LC. Smooth power delivery. No dips or jerkiness.

I totally hear you as I’ve ridden a few bikes that really suffered with jerky throttles and poor fuelling - to the point where they were no fun to ride.

I had a 2019 R1250RS which I’m not sure if is Euro 4 or 5 but it had lovely fuelling and was a peach of an engine - a classic I’d say. Happy at any speed and very controlled. Powering out of leant over roundabouts was its forte. Awesome bike and I’d love another.

Get the Kawasaki Hilltopped and I think you'll find it fuels perfectly.

Other motorcycle tuners are available.

No, I have a 2016 Euro 3 R1200RS. I have ridden Euro 4 versions of the R1200/1250 and the latest Euro 5 version. I have not detected a difference. The fuel injection is excellent.

Probably Hilltopped :D

Yes, Cotswold Motorrad get Hilltop to put a tune on all of their bikes. It's what makes them stand out as one of the leading dealers

Really? Cotswold Motorrad are actively promoting modifications to the stock BMW’s electrickery? Surely this makes the BMW warranty null and void?

I know of one dealer that did this for a while. In fact, both of my bikes were Hilltopped by them.

BMW are ahead of the game when it comes to meeting the Euro-X. The shiftcam engine don't need no Hilltopping

Not sure if any dealer would put a tune on a bike, without the manufactures knowledge. Think VW learnt that wasn't good idea.

So it’s a case of the Emperors New Clothes?
They have their fans, and they are very convinced of the benefits.
Personally, the early claims of up to 35% power hikes were frankly ridiculous imo, and I’m afraid that lost all credibility for me. That was before the claims of detectability or otherwise.
You pay your money, you make the choice, for me the money was better spent on Af-xieds, provably effective and retains some resale value.

Every LC 1200/1250 I've ridden as bog standard has had perfect fuelling and certainly needs no "Hilltop" tune. IF motorrad "Hilltop" all their bikes, they'd have to legally disclose this on all new sales because potentially it will affect insurance and could fall foul of legislation shortly to be brought in to prevent tuning modifications. A good mate has just bought a 1250 from them and there was no mention of this, I wonder if it's offered rather than done as "standard". He was not made aware of any tuning.

My 2016GSA was perfect without any work and speaking to others, their 1250's are also perfectly fuelled. I think BMW are the class leaders when it comes to fuel mapping, Euro 5 or not.
