A recent 2.5k euro trip highlighted the fact that the GSA seat ain't that comfortable. :toungincheek

From the various options which one comes out tops?:comfort

Agree with gundog, Sargent seats are excellent and very comfy on a long trip.

Riders seat is expensive at around £300 but you should be able to sell it for around £200 when you sell the bike on.:beerjug:

The cheapest 'proven' option gets my vote!

I've just returned from over 2K miles in the Alps with a borrowed Airhawk - bloody fabulous piece of kit. Next on my shopping list. Cheaper than a seat and portable so it's a no brainer for my wonga. :thumb

Corbin surpasses a Sargent for:comfort

I suspect that depends on the size and shape of your arse. Corbins are designed for the "fuller" American posterior. They're quite a lot wider than the standard 1200 seat and can make it more difficult to get your feet down. They're also heavier than Sargents and if you turn them over, you'll see that they were built by a blacksmith.

On the other cheek, I find my low Sargent fits my pert, sexy bottom admirably.....:D

Sargent gets my vote. I've had one for two years and paid about $380 new for it on my side of the pond. Shape is decent with good padding. Quality kit.

Corbins are better for most of us who are tosser size:blast

:D

I'd be very wary of ever buying Corbin after having to cut and shut the mounts on the one I fitted to an r90 a few years back. POS was miles out.

Sargent works for me, but your arse may vary.

I put the standard GS seat onto the GSA and am more than happy. I'm not of the "fuller figure" though :)

5,000 miles around Europe on a Rick Mayer custom made saddle in June, bloody brilliant, no sore rear. Have the Rider and pillion and just sold the bike so I will be putting them on here for sale soon. Just have one issue to resolve, when left with water standing on them they turn blue! Back to black as soon as they are dry again. Contacted Rick who is sending a waterproof cover and waterproof treatment.

Mellowyellow I see you are in East Yorkshire, you are welcome to bring your bike and take the seats for a day or so to try them.

Looks nice - how much ?

I shelled out for a Corbin over a sargent because I know they work. I'm 5'11 and under 12st ( about 1/2 what a proper tosser weighs ). Airhawk is fine for motorway riding but you lose a lot of the feedback from the tyres putting a cushion of air beween your bum and the saddle.

My 2p.

I want the issue resolving with Rick Meyer before I sell, dont want anyone to feel cheated, least of all me! They were not cheap though with all the postage, providing secondhand seat pans etc they cost me £600. Still much cheaper than a Corbin and on a par with Sargent. They will be attractively priced though, will post them in the for sale section when all resolved.

I have a Sargeat seat but I certainly wouldn't buy another and would not recommend them.

I have done around 25k on mine and it is very comfortable, but there are tears where some areas have simply worn out, and the piping has deteriorated terribly. Should add some of this started about 3k in to owning it.

For £600 of the realm not the quality I would expect, very disappointing

I find the standard seat only really becomes a pain after a couple of hours of riding. As most of my rides are less than that (commuting) I can't justify the expense of a sargeant seat, though having one fitted to an earlier GS I owned I can testify that they are indeed very comfy.

My solution was to buy a 2nd hand latex airhawk. Set up properly ie. hardly any air in it they are far comfier than a conventional seat. Yes they feel strange at first and you have to remove them when you park up but they provide the best value solution.

TBH if money was no object I'd have a sargeant and still use the airhawk on day long rides. On the GS raising the seat at the front makes a big difference to comfort levels, not sure if the GSA seat is the same.. Try it, you might save yourself a fortune!

Hi Mellowyellow,

Apologies for interupting your thread on seats but, i have been trying to contact (not easy as you are not a subscriber) you regarding your PR3 tyres you were looking to sell a couple of weeks ago.

Do you still have them? do you want to sell them? if so give me a call on 07803 856 487.

Regards,

Tony.

i hate airhawks. the disconnection from the bike is not acceptable to me.
