Euro Trip

Can't see the point of medical insurance in France and Begium as your covered with your euro health card. And there health systems are at least as good as ours,so save your money.Finding a breakdown insurance that also does accident recovery is slightly more difficult, still trying to sort one out myself as don't think BMW assist covers for accidents.:thumb2

You will see the point when you are carried on a stretcher to Charles de Gaul airport to be carried on a medical attended private jet to Cardiff. Your family will aslo see the point when you are killed and have no insurance (see thread).

The standard travel policy (which costs peanuts) will also indemnify you for a host of other disasters.

Not to buy it, even for a day trip is very foolish.

....assuming you have fully comprehensive insurance in the UK that grants the same level of cover abroad, then your motor insurer will cover the accidental damage to your vehicle and (if necessary) its recovery.

Take care, some breakdown policies may appear to cover accident but they retain the right to recover their costs from your insurer.

the EHIC will cove most things locally, and dependant on the region will depend on wheather you have to pay for the icidentals, ambulance etc, (call the Pompier and not an abulance as they are free) xrays and treatment locally is free with EHIC, like has been said repatriation etc isn't as you would expect, I have used AA travel insurance in the past (take out a years subscription works out cheaper than single trip) and they are very good in paying out. my personal experience on why you should have the insurance cover --> http://www.whereistonynow.co.uk/honeymoon.htm

You can get a top up insurace for EHIC http://www.ehicplus.com/?referer=ga_ehic&gclid=CIOJ4J_hzqECFQo9Zgod_RaBJg worth ensuring they cover large capacity bikes.

I've used them too. Single trip rates are pretty reasonable but 'fingers crossed' I have not needed to try them out in anger, so can't say what their service is like.

Used them four times in all!!

1) Wrote off a bike into a tunnel wall in Italy - Provided with a hotel, hire car to the nearest airport, flight home & hire car from airport to home address.
2) Head Gasket - provided with hotel, hire car to ferry port, ferry ticket as a walk on, hire car from ferry port to home.
3) Engine Failure (Cylinders) - provided with hotel whilst repair was made
4) Engine Failure (same as 3 but AGAIN!!) -provided with hotel whilst repair was made

Can really recommend this company as they have always come through. :thumb2
