My 12000m/20000km service was done at Europ' Touring (http://europtouring.free.fr) in Arras as I wasn't able to get it booked in to a "local" dealer.

From where I live, the nearest dealership is in Boulogne! The nearest UK is Bexley (54 miles) and my original dealer is SPC (107 miles). I wanted to do Cray but couldn't get booked in at short notice.

For some reason the cost of servicing is cheaper in France than in UK. I preferred Arras as they took the effort to reply quite quickly. The bike ran well and even when the day trip ferry fare was added on, it was still cheaper than the UK dealers, and I had a day out in France with a loan bike they lent.

My bike is one of SPC's German imports (grey imports?) and they kindly gave me the German service book and handbook as well as a new UK service book. Of its three services since new it has been done in Germany, SPC and now France.

I need the 18000m/30000km done soon and will give Europ' Touring first crack.. now how much is the ferry and do I have enough points on Eurotunnel to go free....?

Think outside the box.

I was unfortunate enough to have an accident near Arras earlier this year. Whilst I travelled to hospital in a fire truck, BMW Assistance arranged for the bike to go to the dealer in Arras. I have to say that the following day, they could not have been more helpful when I called there for my stuff. Free use of the phone / fax, offers of coffee and even a drop of sympathy. The showroom even looked just the way a BMW bike dealership should look with plenty gear on sale. Top marks to them. Now if only the dealers up here could learn something from this.......

No Patrice speaks pretty reasonable English. I've booked the 18000 there on Oct 9th. I can use 300 of my Eurotunnel points and so the cost is minimal. Prayng for good weather!

When they came for a run to UK earlier in tyhe year, I gave them the tour of kent or a bit fo Kent. Lolgeoff came along to boost the GS members. Good crowd.

That sounds like a top Idea......could you give us an idea of the price differences so us plebs without any frequent user points can price it up??

Ah Fanum me old sweetie china mucker,

Eurotunnel's fares are a mystery to everyone but the majority French shareholders and board members.

They make another financial loss but rather than cut a few quid off the fares and pack the trains with a happy throng of travellers plying their way back and forward to Frogland, they prefer to live in alleged cartel world and keep pace with the ferries.... day trip about £35 to £40 at the moment, but as soon as the holiday season finishes I'm sure they'll drop to a more manageable and VFM level....

At Easter when I had the 12000 miles service rather than venture to Belge for the GS Rally it was £23 for the day on P&O.... that service cost about £157.50 according to First Direct and was the full "by the book" BMW job. The 18000 miler I'll have on October 9th is about £100.

Service in Arras

That is very interesting,
I need a servce for 12000 soon and might try the same deal if I can get a cheapo ticket, I presume you are pleased with what they did there??
thanks from
Barrie

Very. The bike actually felt like it had had a service and I can't actually say I noticed that after I brought it back from SPC at 6000 miles.

If you contact Patrice mention me and we might get a discount plan working.

Once you are a customer they also give discounts of 10 or 15% off clothing and wotnot.

I confirmed my 18000m/30000k jobbie for October 9th and booked the shuttle....
