I must confess I didn't. I had meant to, then forgot, pushing the 'update device' button by mistake. I can always do it again.
I am though penning an email to Garmin to see if they can throw some light on why two devices that are the same, do things differently. I do wonder if the internal memory space is really critical. If one device had a fraction more disc space used up, I guess the software defaults to 'the next best option' i.e.. the SD card.
I have also been looking for ways (other than downloading an app) for showing hidden files on a Mac. as usual, the answers are several and out there, including:

To be honest, I don't really want to see system files that Apple have deliberately hidden away; just the map files on my Nav V so that I can free the space that Garmin Express is reluctant to clear.
