European GS Speedo - Km/H with inner MPH?

Does anyone know whether the speedo of a European R1200GS has markings for both Km/H (on the outside) and MPH on the inside? Currently working in Germany, however still get to the UK a lot, so, a dual speedo like on UK bikes would be useful, checked my Landrover Disco and it is only Km/H.

Yes, I am being a Northern Monkey and trying to save some beer tokens by buying the same bike in Germany for a few thousand less.. :beer:

Does the lc not have a digital speedo that can be changed between mph and kmh? I know it has an analogue speedo but thought it had the digital one as well.
 
It does but the digital speedo is small and rubbish.

Looking at Google images none of the kmh clocks have mph on them. You could of course do the usual sticker conversion.
 
I did see one dial, on a GS LC, that had just MPH on it. I would give my pocket money for a long time for one of those.

Flyinggibbon, as you are living and working in Germany - and probably not busy all day every day (beyond dreaming up a way to save beer tokens, that is) - why not try answering your own question by looking at the many 1200 WC's you'll see parked up in Germany, or stroll into a German dealership..... or be really radical and call a dealership (or anyone advertising a 1200 GS WC for sale) and ask them.... You know, the very people you'll be contacting to buy your German registered bike, importing it into Britain and saving yourself all those thousands of drinking vouchers. Think of the financial reward as an added spur to your endevours.

Beyond looking at the speedo in your car, you can't be arsed? Oh well; back to dreaming and beer, I guess. At least it requires no effort :beer: and you can do it on your own.
 
PS Lots of WC owners have had their clock sets nicked, always by Eastern Europeans apparently. Buy a set on e-bay. One man's loss is another's gain and I'm sure they'd be happy to know that the end result was a happy beer voucher saving biker :thumby:
 
lc speedo is so illegible and away from line of sight do what everyone else does , mount a sat nav higher up in eye line (ie where it is on a tc model) and use the speed display on that.

It is the only bike I have ever owned where I leave the sat nav on all of the time
 
I find the analogue one illegible too so use the digital one on the dash. My wife does the same on her new R1200R. Her only gripe is that none of the preset dashboard layouts on hers has a digital speedo and a rev counter so she's had to give up the revs to get a readable speed.

This thread has reminded me I need to figure out how to change that one to kph for an upcoming trip.
 
Fairly easy to cut a slither og stick tape and fix it to the glass at the various speed limit points. I find using the satnav useful as it shows spped limits and speed turns red when exceeded.

Yeah but the problem with the standard clocks is that the standard digits are too small and the glass is very reflective in sunlight rendering them almost illegible, trying to read the kmh scale is even more difficult
 
You might want to check what the DVLA will require if/when you decide to register it in England. I suspect you will need a proper MPH speedo, they don't permit stick on numbers..... and the headlight may have to be changed too.

You are obviously too old and long sighted to ride a GS, get some bi-vocals or buy an old mans bike :)

You sure about that?
My Audi A6 was first registered in Germany and is now on UK plates with a km/h only speedo and the original headlights. At MOT time I just tell them where the beam deflectors are and they're happy. Speedo has never been mentioned
