Just checked mine also...were shy of the 24 according to my torque wrench...so I tightened them ... :)

Hi all

Just a quick note

To torque correctly you must slacken the screw first then tighten to correct torque, I was instructed to do this this way as it is the only way to torque fixings accurately.

Appologies if i'm trying to teach you to suck eggs.

Thanks!!

I just paid £250 for a 12,000 mile service.

3 bolts required 90 degrees of tightening and one not much, to get them to 24 Nm, but all were under-torqued 200 miles after a dealer service??

:eek

So what do all you people with loose bolts plan to do?

Keep checking them or let BMW know?

Worry........... :( .....or maybe take to drink...

Four loose!

4,000 kilometers. Four bolts loose enough for between 180 degrees and 360 degrees of tightening up to torque. Thanks for the warning.

When you have more statistics, it may be worth getting a comment out of BMW. I'd be interested in the outcome of your crash investigation - if this was the cause and you had been going much faster the outcome could have been awful.

Cheers,

Psyko

I checked mine when I first read the post -about ten days ago. Three were loose - one very loose, so I torqued to 25 NM. I rechecked last night and two were a little bit loose again - about 20 NM.

Bottom yoke pince bolts--what exactly am I supposed to be checking for??

Tim

What you may know as either the lower triple-clamp or bottom yoke has 4 pinch-bolts which clamp the fork-legs in.
They should be tightened to 24Nm.
To do this, you need a torque wrench and somebody who knows how to use it.
Hope this helps.

It's a wind up/You're 'avin' a bubble?

No, I'm serious. What am I supposed to be looking for?

Okay - From the front wheel, follow the forks up to the alloy bracket, almost into the bodywork, which connects them to the steering head.
On the reverse of this, on both legs are a pair of bolts ...etc ..etc

Okay! Now I really bit!! :clap

Best pic I could find at short notice :)
