Ive just done over 2,000 miles and the bike has suddenly decided to immobilse itself every so often. Display indicates an EWS fault which apparently means the bike is immobilised and so consequently won't start. After switching on & off a random number off times, I can eventually get the bike started. Contacted the dealer & they want to take the bike in for a few days to solve the problem, just wondered if anyone had come across the same problem. Also I'm sure that blimmin fuel gauge is duff, is this another usual problem.

Same issue on my K1200R, could not switch off ignition without disconnecting battery. Fault Identified within ignition switch and promptly repaired. Make sure you have no other keys near your ignition key as this can affect function of the key chip. K1200R owners manual covers this default setting but not sure if same with GS. Hope this is of some help.

Is there anything to be gained in putting a Faradays cage above the ignition barrel etc to stop the nasty electrons interfering with the imobiliser?

Just a thought :o

Are you thinking the ring antenna is getting "re-programmed" rather than failing:nenau

Thanx for info fellow GSER s, Ive dropped bike in at dealers hopefully will be sorted shortly.Missing the bike already, havin to use the car to get to work, what a pain.:(

I had the same fault on my 1200 GS, turned out it was the camera type batteries in the alarm. I replaced them and no problems since. It's situated under the rear seat.
