Today new 1200GS Adv - 1072 miles failed to start completely dead, all ignition lights ok but registered a EWS fault top left of info panel.
BMW recovery came out and smiled at this well know fault, key not reading immobiliser under ignition.
Bike having to be taken into dealership for new immobiliser parts & fit and re register of key's with new immobiliser.

I'm not a happy chappy especially as i go away for a few weeks touring on the bike on Thursday!! two days time!! :blast.

If its a well known fault then why Oh why don't BMW fix the problem .....

Smile....be happy....

(a) Be happy that the problem did not maifest itself half way across France, in the rain.

(b) Be happy that BuMW are fixing your baike nad the problem in gerneral (see threads).

Give BMW a chance, they have only known about this problem for 4 years, takes a while to sort these things out!
It would appear there is now a fix, so you shouldn't happen again :thumb
Brian.

Happened to me, my mate, his mate......:blast

Not very clever on BMW's part!

The good news is that I've not yet heard of any of the new Antenna's packing up..... unless, that is, someone out there knows differently!!

Andy B - when you say 'new' mine is on an 08 plate and only four months old ?

Anyhow Wapping has taken the stress out of my burning soul ....... I really could be half way across France in the rain .... (then again i could have been at a dealership chatting to a board mechanic with no work;)) anyway i'm happy now .... thanks wapping:D

Mine is a March '08 and has had a replacement antenna ring fitted. Original one had no failures,

I think the new "247" part was only OEM from about May onwards. Earlier models are subject to a recall. See other threads.

Wilbjr21 .... mine also March 08 interesting .... bab batch ????

Yes I think so - I still carry a spare though and the wallet key is always in my wallet. I also carry the fuel pump controller and the means to change it.

These seem to be the only terminal problems you get on these bikes so it's prudent to carry spares. :rob
