I work with files on your computer. Now, I cannot now open the file. When you try to open a window gives "This file is not in a recognizable format."

I work in Excel 2003 to Windows XP.

Who faced such a problem and how to solve it?

I'm sure your friend will be along shortly with some wizard piece of software to solve your problem.

Maybe the file is simply corrupt. If you have a Google account try and open it in Drive and see what happens. It should open all office documents.

Chaps, Don't bother. Sites (albeit usually accounting and software sites) are plagued with posts like this. A new member with a single post has an Excel problem and, usually several hours later, someone pops up recommending an obscure and unnecessary piece of software.

Apply guide below or you may choose another methods like those that solution created for complicated excel issues or helpful threads about MS Excel troubles

1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Open.
2. In the Open dialog box, select the corrupted workbook that you want to open.
3. Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
4. Do one of the following:
o To recover as much of the workbook data as possible, click Repair.
o To extract values and formulas from the workbook when an attempt to repair the workbook is not successful, click Extract Data.
