Exhast seals or just use the clamps?

I am refitting the original collector and pipe to an 1150 and was just wondering if the joints between the down pipes and the collector box and collector box and end silencer need to be sealed or not. Do the clamps do this job?
Thanks
James

Slacken off the Header pipes to give you a bit of play for a start. try and get it all nicely in line before you do all the fastenings up so that no part is under undue stress. The more you get a better seal on the joints means that there is less chance of the occasional popping that sometimes come from these bikes on the overrun. Clean up where the pipes join both inside and out. Take your time and its all pretty straightforward. I prefer to get a good seal without the use of gasket compound if at all possible ..... but thats just me....:thumb

Thanks all. Interesting point about the overrun and popping. The Remus silencer has cracked and is blowing out of the hole next to the LHS pillion footrest, hence the reason for changing it back to original. The bike has also been backfiring quite badly on the overrun, if the original exhast stops as well it would be a bonus.
Thanks again
James
